Topic: Do you consider yourself a "deep" and intelligent person? | |

Confucius say, "The ocean is deep. People are shallow."
Confucius also say, "An intelligent man can be a fool, but even an idiot can be wise." |

confusus say .. woman who fly upside down , have crack up.
as for deep ... that tends to mean you look at a lot of different angles to a problem and ask a lot of questions. intelligence means you can decern which is the correct answer. wisdom is knowing if you should tell anyone else. |

Seems to me that being intelligent is kinda circumstantial. There's always someone more and someone less intelligent than I,and we all posses a certain degree of it.A better question,in my opinion, would be Do you consider yourself to be an intellectual because that is an indicator of where your head is....And you should Always
...Feed your head:) I may be focusing on semantics here...if so,I is sorry |

Honestly, it depends on the mood I am in.
We are all a little selfish, choosing to hide sore spots emotionally as well as physically. Our minds process people at a first glance and we wonder why we never seem to meet certain people, when truly, it's preset conditioning come to us over the span of our brief, but beautiful lives. I suppose what I mean, is that at times, I am deep and thoughtful, but at others I can be shallow and selfish. I've also got a good head on my shoulders. I'm smart, book wise, at least. |

Do you consider yourself a "deep" and intelligent person?
yes. How would you define the term "deep?" deep....being the desire to unearth, uncover more than the plain and oftentimes superficial layer...deep is the almost inherant need to 'know'.... Do people in your life view you as "smart?" yes. What does it mean to b.e "smart?" Hmm...for others I suspect when they suggest I am smart, they actually mean perceptive, experienced, knowledgable, or even simply communicative in more than monosyllabic grunts. Is intelligence based on the abilty to "store" and memorize facts and figures and data? No....thats erudition...or academia....in my reckoning... Or is about thinking in independent ways? I suspect it is more to do with experiential...anyone can train themselves to store information....however, APPLIED information becomes experiential intelligence...a more wholesome form of intelligence, it also allows for emotional intelligence...which becomes a much more complete form of intelligence. Lateral thought is always a much broader and expansive, inclusive form of thinking, than straight academia. |

I am a flying pig! how fortunate for you! to the OP - no, I do not consider myself to be a deep and philosophical sort - and sometimes I have trouble getting along with those types I am smart but I live in the moment - am realistic and very practical. have a hard time valuing anything that doesn't have a practical purpose and a defined outcome or accomplishment philosophical discussions usually bore me unless they are held by recognized experts where the subject is actaully their profession - such as a physicist discussing physics/metaphysics - even then, if it doesn't put dinner on the table, my tolerance for it is limited...hey at least I'm honest |

I am very average in the "intelligent" area. But I am very deep. I define "deep" as a person who contemplates the nature of reality, infinity, and other huge subjects. |

And seeing your picture here, I absolutely believe it is very true. You look like a deep thinker, and with all that computer equipment you must be intelligent. |

Not in the sense that one follows a moving object. But if you are being with th tao, you could be said to be 'following the tao' in the sense that one follows a path through the woods. I don't know the Tao at all. I don't know what it stands for, what it means. But I know a thing or two about moving objects. You follow the moving object. When you catch up with it, you say to yourself, "What the... ?? Hey, f...k it." And then you f.....k it. This was my motto, credo and ergo at around when I was fifteen. I also don't know what I Ching stands for or what it means. I think it is probably the trademark name of Apple's Eastern Philosophy software. Or I and thou. One of the founders of Apple was Jewish, I guess. (If not, then I am wrong. I claim no factual knowledge on this, to any degree of precision.) |

Robots store data doesn't meant there smart I believe someone who is very adaptable to all social situation and environments is intelligent someone who can manipulate and teach as well as sit back and soak stuff up at times is a smart person A deep person is someone who finds purpose in his or her life someone who realizes the reason why they are smart is because the admit they are dumb Socrates, Plata, and Aristotle talk about these things as well as the Sage Lao Tzu and The Buddhas I was gonna say no until I read this...I don't think of myself as someone that is super bright (intelligent) or deep & philosophical, but my friends seem to disagree! I do think differently, put things together quickly in my head, wonder why about things and how can I figure it out! My friends and family always say..."you are the smartest person I know" & I reply.."you need to meet a few more poeple"! Graduate school has been really tough for me & the hardest part is believing myself that I could do this! This crap scares the heck outta me, but my mentors believe in me and I have seen what happens to the ones they do not believe in so, I have sucked it up, put my nose down in the literature & am gettin'-r-done!!! I am still dumb as chit though & will look for my keys that are in my hand, forget trash day, the redbox movie I've had for a week, or that I need my ID to get into the lab and then have to drive back home & get it, and I usually don't get it when someone flirts with me. Adaptable...hell yeah, I am a survivor and can improvise fairly well in life!!! I love simple days sitting on the river with a bonfire, good friends, and a few beers! I am not the "I live for science scientist" that has a cot in the lab. I'd rather spend my time thinking while walking the dogs or riding a horse than meeting with everyone else to discuss new cutting edge theories & such! To me that is not a "deep" person...perhaps I am just a well rounded and humble individual? |
