If soul is immortal why do we fear of death?

Who fears death? If one fears death it's probably a different reasoning between the people.

So far I never met a person (ordinary person like me) who is not fearful of death.Some of them are worried about their family,some are worried for non-fulfilment of some desire;ultimately no body wants to die before those work.

It's not that I want to die. It's just what is there to fear? Death is a part of life. We are born, we live, we die. What is there to fear? It's gonna happen one day. Why spend the energy and worry of fearing death when it's inevitable one day? It's not something one can prevent or choose if they die or not.

Yes,I will die,you will die,infact all living things will die but not our souls. When soul leaves the body it is termed as dead and soul enters to other body and that becomes a living body. So in that sense we are not dying only our body dies. Still we are affraid of death(most of my known persons).

True, the only way to die is to not receive the gift of heaven. You either have been obedient and received the gift of heaven and eternal life or you are punished with death. In my previous post I was more referring to secular death... the death of this body in secular eyes.

Our soul is immortal. i think people fear death because they are uncertain of where they will spend eternity. this is an understandable fear if you are unsure. there is always fear in uncertainty no matter what the issue is. i can only tell you that there is absolutly nothing to fear if you know the creater and giver of life. if you dont know who that is, his name is Jesus.

Name of the CREATOR is UNKNOWN... Some say god... Some say Allah... Some say YHWH... These are but a small sample.

Calling god by the name of a man is kinda lame.

Jesus was born of woman... ergo he is but a man.

Fear of death is an understandable emotion... Yet death is but a step upon the road of life.

and that which is called 'heaven' upon the earth in this time is but a way-point in the journey...

There is a greater destination.

Life must be a continous forward motion else 'eternity' is meaningless.

I don't believe our bodies are infested by some spiritual force.

As for dying - for most of my life I have not feared death, but I have feared the manner in which it will overtake me.

In the last few years, perhaps because of my age, I have one other fear - that I will not have enough time to experience a long life with the love of my life.

No one wants to be old alone, so as we age it becomes very important to build a life within your community. Through those others you build a diverse family in which you value and care for others as they value and care for you.

Then the fear of death will once again be in how it overtakes me.

Thier is nowhere in the Scriptures that says we have an immortal soul and will live forever.

1 Thesalonians 5:23 Now may the God of peace himself make you completely holy and may your spirit and soul and body be kept entirely blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Furthermore God created man in his own image. God has three parts Father,Son and Holy Ghost. Therefor Man must also have three parts, Body soul and spirit. Body (Flesh) Soul His inner man which is in in fact the real you. The flesh is simply a tool to interact with a material world. Which is why when the ghost leaves the body the body will not live. And finnally spirit, His mind will and emotions.

I've given biblical proof above. Whether or not you believe that stuff is up to you.

Yet Spirit without the body would be a free souln (we are in the image of an imortal concept)... the body does not die - it is cast off by the spirit and ceases to function as does an engine without fuel.

Therefore Works of Good done by one without faith are still works to the good.

Yes God is the only true God that part is true. But the Godhead has three parts that make up the one.

I put this one in there because it mentions Spirit. You said no where in scripture does it say you have a spirit. (Ok you used soul) But I think we both mean the inner man.

And I mentioned James because it says the body with out the spirit (That thing you say is not mentioned in scripture) is dead.

I'm simply giving scripture that mentions the spirit. (Or if you want to split hairs the soul)

We fear death because we are conscious, thinking animals. Unlike other animals, we are quite aware of our mortality. In addition, we are egocentric; we fear that instead of an afterlife, we become nonexistent, and this is unacceptable to our egos.

Some fear going to hell, but that is a unreasonable and even unnatural fear, instilled by culture and religion.

Most humans fear the unknown: it is why we hate those who are different from us. Most fear that which we cannot understand: physically, we understand how, and why, we die, but the question of what comes next is an unanswered question.

We fear death because we are biologically programmed for survival. We will go to great lengths to stay alive, killing other humans in war, as sacrifices, and in other venues. The evolution of humans is based on this premise, otherwise, we would have died out long ago.

There is an old saying that goes, "Everyone wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die." One of the silliest hypocrisies I have witnessed are Christians who "beat" death, especially the elderly. I had a near 80 neighbor who had heart surgery. He told me that he made it through because so many people were praying for him. I wanted to ask him why he just didn't die and get on to heaven, but I didn't know him well and refrained.

Years ago, my ex husband had a strong, almost militant Christian friend who said many times that he was "ready to die" and just wished "god would take him home." He came to our house one day with a white face, totally shaken. He said that he had nearly driven his truck over the edge of a precipice and NEARLY died!

I asked why that bothered him--after all, he was ready to die. He had life insurance, so his kids (living with his ex wife) would have been taken care of. He looked at me, a strange light dawning in his eyes. I never heard him say again that he was ready to die.

When I was in the church, I also asked the pastor why we weren't immediately taken to heaven when we became saved. He replied that we needed to stay on earth to convert nonbelievers. I couldn't buy into that explanation! If I were a nonbeliever and the guy next to me said, "Hallelujah! I am saved!" and disappeared, it would convince me a whole lot better than rhetoric would.

all i am saying is we are not immortal.. that is a gift. Our future spirit will either inherit Life everlasting or will be killed destruction. no hell fire for humans forever.

Immortality was given to those who was born Immortal like the Angels. Not man we are changed at the twinkling of an eye then we become immortal but know this..

1 John 3:13-15
