Does anyone despise the holidays like I do? I have no family, no kids and I don't even have a man in my life and my parents live 2000 miles away! I have spent the last 3yrs alone and it gets really depressing during this time of year. Can anyone sympathize with me? I hope 2011 will be a better year for me all around.

I can understand completely -- I have no family, and don't know anyone where I'm living now -- all I can tell you is that I got used to it after awhile. It would be nice to have someone to share the holidays with, but, for me, it's simply not going to happen. Part of it is just being able to cope with the reality of the situation. |

I've been alone for several years on the holidays. My kids live in the same town as I do but they never come over for Christmas cause they have "other things to do".

I'm one of the loners as well. But I do have lots of distant people who love me. Plus, I dunno. It's sort of like being outside a marriage going "Ooh! I want one of those!!", when the reality isn't as wonderful. I'm sure somebody somewhere has amazing Christmases, but I only had to go through so many bad ones before I knew that this isn't what this particular holiday was meant to be.

I spend the holidays alone as well but perhaps more by choice than anything. I could easily go back to Pittsburgh and chill with friends but it really doesn't bother me that much. This will be my second year along since my divorce but when I was in the Army I spent 5 alone .. I guess I never got into them that much ... I'm sorry for anyone that is alone that this effect emotionally ... no one should have to be alone unless it's by choice.

I'll be OK. Being alone has turned out to be, in some respects, the "lesser of two evils," so to speak. While sometimes I really do think it would be nice to be with someone this time of year, it's really only in an idealized sense -- the Christmas Illusions/Delusions, you might say. My real-life experience has shown me that it's all just a lot more trouble than it's worth.... |

Merry Christmas MusicLoveandMore and Lex! I am thinking of you guys over the holidays!
^^^this & anyone else spending the holidays alone :) I am planning to catch up with many old friends this weekend & very excited. We will drink a round for you guys  Should be hugging my bff in about 12 hrs  He got 3 puppies yesterday too

I've been on my own at this time of year since my separation in 2003. apart from 2006 when i spent Christmas in hospital.
Still. At least I can eat and drink as much as I want with no complaints from anyone. It WOULD be nice to have at least SOME company though.

Life changes, though. I think when I'm ready to be with someone, I will be. Even if it's just the homeless guys at the soup kitchen. |

I have a daughter, who spends every holiday with my ex. Being alone at family functions has gotten to the point that it is not bearable, seeing everyone with their partner. Add to that the fact that a week ago I spent my birthday alone, which I have done for the last few years. I know exactly how you feel. Merry Christmas!  You are not alone in your solitude, there are others who are going through the same thing.

Thank you Everyone for you input here! I apologize for now just getting back to my post here!! I been doing my best to think positive about this whole situation because its something I cannot change right now! I am hoping that 2011 will be a better year for me and I won't have such ill feelings about the Holidays!!
