Just a few things that make me feel closer to God
Being in nature
My writing, yes even my darkest writing
The laugh of a child
That moment of stillness

I have God in my heart, so to speak, so He is with me all the time. But in nature I can talk best to Him by just watching and being one with the all.

Invisible, thank you for presenting one of the many different ways in which a person can experience 'being closer to God' - "I can talk best to Him". I'm deliberately leaving the phrase "closer to God" open to interpretation, to hear the greatest diversity of thoughts possible.

For me, the phrase has something to do with being free from needlessly negative thoughts, doubts, fears, it has something to do with having a readiness to see that there isn't anything to forgive; it has to do with having a deep and perception-shaping feeling of peace, or knowing ones place in the universe. But there are many different ways to see this phrase.

With one exception, prayer, I don't know what any of these things has to do with getting or feeling closer to God. I don't believe in God, Yet:

I find peace and beauty in nature beyond equal. I also see what the ravages of nature can leave in it's wake, but I am inspired by those who pull together to begin again.

I extend a helping hand to others because, we, as humans, depend on human kindness, understanding and the occasional selfless acts to survive.

I kept a journal for many years, from them I have made many wonderful self discoveries and have found it a source of joy that others I have let read my prose have found comfort and peace and wonder in those words.

All of those things which you seem to do to feel closer to God, I do to feel closer to humanity, to feel a part of something of value, because for me, this is as good as it gets, because for me, every day might LITERALLY be my last. Therefore, to me, life is about now, about people, about joy and acceptance and struggle and about finding the beautiful in every single day.

Peace to all, to me this was some beauty in the day and you are all lovely people.

Each day be conscience of your duty to be saintly. And that doesn't mean doing strange things. It means a daily struggle in the interior life, and in heroically fulfilling your duty, right through to the end.

My closeness to God?? I feel a closeness with My God every morning, and night, through good and bad. I wake up and thank HIM for the sun, the clouds, the rain, everything He is, everything He does, and all that I have. I smile at the birds, the crickets, and the sounds of the people scrambling to get around. I feel His presence in a face I may look at, in a joy I may feel.
His presence was mine when my little dogs came into my life. We helped each other. I feel His presence everytime I see my children, my family, my friends.
I know His presence is with me after I pray. Many prayers are answered by Him. Many are not. It is His time, not mine.
My God is known by me now, before, and will be for ever more. He gives me gifts every single day of my life.

So long as the soul is united to Christ, there is no danger that it will wither or decay.

As the shepherd leads his flock over the rocky hills, through forest and wild ravines, to grassy nooks by the riverside; as he watches them on the mountains through the lonely night, shielding from robbers, caring tenderly for the sickly and feeble, his life comes to be one with theirs. A strong and tender attachment unites him to the objects of his care. However large the flock, the shepherd knows every sheep. Every one has its name, and responds to the name at the shepherd's call.
We are like sheep. We cannot make it alone. We need God's help —every moment of every day.

"For ye were as sheep going astray, but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls."—1 Peter 2:25.

As the shepherd goes before his sheep, himself first encountering the perils of the way, so does Jesus with His people. 'When He putteth forth His own sheep, He goeth before them.' The way to heaven is consecrated by the Saviour's footprints.

Yet sheep can become lost; and, when a predator comes, they may scatter in fear.

"As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out My sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day."Ezekiel 34:12.

In the parable, the shepherd goes out to search for one sheep —the very least that can be numbered. So if there had been but one lost soul, Christ would have died for that one.

God is physical, spiritual, seen and unseen. If I want to be physically close to Him, I can go up a really big hill, or climb a mountain and praise Him and all His creation. But, as we know what Christians and spiritulist and believers in Christ know; He is everywhere, all around, all things.
I am ever reminded that there is going to always be more that I can do, and more that He will do to continue to teach me.
When I want to feel closer or be more like Him; I ask for help. I ask for forgiveness. I ask for guidance.
I thank Him.
