with sleep weary eyes
I rise
and trip over
the morning
a walk down the hall,
surprise,
I hear the phone ring

I don’t pick it up
I know it’s not you
go straight to the window
pretend there’s a view
another day in the life
of a man better known
as a fool

the gallon of coffee I’ve poured in my head
doesn’t do the trick, so I slip back to bed
and listen to the echo of a memory I hear,
as I think of you

I couldn’t laugh enough to safe me
I didn’t cry enough not to break
I close my eyes and drift off to safety
and pray I don’t dream…..for sanity’s sake

the afternoon rush
goes by quiet
without me
the late evening news
plays in the
background
again

and the dinner I planned
still waits at the store
maybe tomorrow
I’ll walk out this door,
but today’s not the day
it’s just another one
I drink away

no...no sorrow

a friend on one of my nieces was
playing this song the other day
and someone told him to talk to me
about fixing the lyrics...so i tossed
it about and re-wrote it for him...
there is not much left of his work,
but he sang it today and it works for
the most part...i'll fine tune it....
