SO...
Take a can of crescent rolls, unroll them on the counter and take two at a time apart so that you have rectangles. Carefully press the perforated seam together. Fill with sausage, ham, cheese, etc, (Be sure to include some diced jalapeno if you want to be a Texan!) Bake about 10 minutes and MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Yeah, there's a yum in every bite! It might not be the Kolache Factory kolache, but it's pretty dang delicious! (*no possums were harmed in the making of these kolaches!) |

I make these with provolone cheese, thinly sliced hard salami and shaved cooked ham. When done I served them with marinara sauce. They are like mini stromboli.
I haven't made them in awhile--Thanks for the reminder, Galend! |

Ive never heard of a kolache. Where is that word from? Sounds like something my Polish gramma would say. Once upon a time, a possum (who didn't know she was one)moved to the great state of Texas and began learning about all things Texan. One of the best discoveries was this yummy Czech(?)based creation called a "Kolache." They looked like little pocket sandwiches...just right for a small hand or a marsupial pouch. The outside was a delicious, slightly sweet roll - not like a donut is sweet (more like a dinner roll, but still not quite the same.) Inside was a surprise - which was especially wonderful from the possum's point of view! She sampled them filled with sausage, ham, cheese, peppers and all combos thereof. She sampled them with spinach (yum) and sampled them with fruit. She liked them so well that she got "THE FEVER!" and had to take some home to her nest. Later. she learned to make a pretty darn good imitation while in her own nest. The story (trying to be a good Texan here) could end happily now but in an effort to REALLY represent her new home state, she's thinking about a new kolache filling based on what began as a joke in another thread... BBQ filled Kolaches! I can taste 'em now! |

Perhaps this should be called the Possum Pie thread...they aren't "really" kolaches, despite how they look.
Tried leftover BBQ ribs, pulled pork, mustard glaze, cheese and jalapenos in them today. Really, you CAN make a BBQ possum kolache...life is GOOD! |

Fresh berries and cream cheese...
pretty yummy, but could have used a tiny bit of sauce or jam or tiny bit of sugar on the inside for a more moist and flavorful breakfast treat. Who's stuffing what in their version? |

used to make something like them but put stew in em and carried them in my lunch.good eatting A really good version is made in New Zealand called simply "meat pie" and Australia called "Aussie Pie". The Aussie guy who runs the motorcycle museum near Bandara, Tx makes a mean Aussie Pie filled with beef stew. Super Yum! |
