Madalyn was a nut case from a family of nut cases.
I meet her back in the late seventies. She was screwy then and she died screwy. That does not mean that all atheists are screwy.

Truly,

That would be like saying that some member of the KKK who just happens to claim to be a Christian is representative of all Christians. whoa

Thank you both. Now if everyone would believe this and act on it, everyone would be happy....

Look at America today! Murdering little children is LEGAL. Casino gambling is LEGAL. Producing, selling and viewing pornography is LEGAL. Getting drunk is LEGAL. Fornication is LEGAL. Homosexuality is LEGAL.

And marijuana is now joining the legal ranks, and repeal of DADT and same sex marriage - oh and rap, is that music?

And we now have more nonprofit organizations and international nonprofits working out of this country, with donations from its people, than any country in the world.

We have the most culturally diverse society of any in the world.

Likewise, we have the greatest proportion of volunteers who, at thier own expense, will travel all over the world to bring aid and comfort.

Whatever people might say or think of the richest people in the world (most of whom reside in America) without them philanthopy would be a word most people never hear of. The grants they provide serve many purposes, not the least of which is support of education.

We may have the greatest number of bars per capita but they are equaled by the number of churches.

We have survived McCarthy & Watergate & the likes of Jim Baker and Jimmy Swaggert, Jerry Falwell & Pat Robertson, and while we must all put up with vindictive and ridiculous people like John McCain and Fred Phelps and organizations like Maggie Gallagher’ s NOM and her cohort Brian Brown, Focus on the family and Concerned Women for America – I’m sure we’ll survive them too, at least as well as we have survived 9/11.

Overall, I don’t think the 60’s and 70’s produced such a bad group – and it makes sense that so many were Christians, considering they are the majority of our religious community.

So I suppose we must claim all the bad names and good ones, great causes and activism, and the largest outpouring of contributions and volunteers of any other country because even the least and worst of us are still US.
