for the life of me I cannot figure out this phenomenon…yet we see it all over the place.
what is it about making the fishy lip, duck face, air kisser pose that is appealing? I don’t get it! in fact I find rather ridicules, this is one time I wish the old “….your face is going to stay that way.” would actually happen. It ranks right up there with sideways pics, if you ask me. they don’t make you stand out, they make you stand sideways! neither of these things are natural to my senses and I find it much easier to shake my head and move on, than to tilt my computer monitor or attempt to visually suppress that pair of inflated whistle benders. still, it looks as though this (for some reason) is here for a while. I would like to know just who "does" enjoy seeing people demenstrate this fine talent? More, can you please, please, please explain why? As someone whose hobby is making fun of really really bad profiles (there's so much material, you could literally do this forever), I've run across the duckface phenomenon 14,882,745,992 times so far.
How to explain it? My first guess is that someone put up a duckface pic because they thought it looked "alluring" (I mean, sure, we're all attracted to ducks, right?), and the billions and billions of copycats, who couldn't write an original sentence to save their hackneyed, cliched "lives" (I use the term loosely), thought, "Wow, this is in a profile, I should do it, too." This is why everyone in the universe describes themselves as "laid back and easy going," "I like to go out or stay in," and "I'm unique because I'm bipedal and I take in oxygen." It's just so much easier to do the same thing the last fifty billion people have done, rather than to try to generate anything new out of the three remaining brain cells ensconced somewhere in their cranial vacuosity. The other possibility is that these people actually believe they ARE ducks. This concept appeals to me a lot more, but the evidence is a little sketchy. |

Playing "follow the leader" seems to be the thing these days, not only the duck face, but sagging pants, exposed underwear, etc....wish someone would find that leader and kick his butt....maybe everyone would return to being themselves
