I don't sugar-coat things to my daughter, I told her that there are going to be people looking at her pics and saying things about them. What matters is how SHE reacts to what they say. She has learned to let things roll off her back and not bother her, but it also made her get past making those faces pretty quickly.

Adults have been saying things to teenagers for a very long time. Just going back to the 60's, they called The Beatles "girlie" for having hair that reached their collars. They later called hippies names for letting their hair grow to their waists. They called anyone from the 80's who wore their hair "Flock of Seagulls" style, strange and anyone who followed punk rock, got called "morons".

Parents have the responsibility to their child to help them deal with things that happen in their young lives. Some of these teens who have committed suicide may not have had a parent who helped them by sitting them down and showed them support too, just put them down also (and not have realized it)
