So, I moved back in with my mom and nephew. My nephew is old enough to sleep in his own bed now. My ten year old cat likes to play with peoples feet at night. It's not really a problem for me and my mom, but my nephew has waken up a few times, and I think it's because of my cat playing with him.

Anyone have any ideas on how to handle this?

What I'm going to do for now is keep my cat in my room at night and my mom will let him out when she wakes up, but I'm just concerned about if he needs to use the bathroom when he's in my room. I'm sure he'll be ok, but I need to figure out a better plan.

there is a spray you can purchase that may discourage the cat from playing with someones feet...you can find it in most lawn and garden supply stores, it smells like oranges, orange peel actually and cats and dogs dont like it, because it stings thier noses...

try that...make sure the linen are not the best before spraying since its an oil based substance and might not wash out so easy.

Glad your back totage happy

Could you close the door to your nephews room? If not he'll have to start wearing shoes to bed.

I would put the nephew up for
adoption at the Humane Society.
And give the cat his room.

I'll try the spray, thanks.

I use to have that problem until i discovered catnip in a spray. Whenever he was becoming an arse, I sprayed some catnip on his scratching post. He'd go nuts and torture himself only before settling down for the night. He's 5 years old and I still have to use that trick from time to time.

Maybe your cat is getting bored and needs some new toys or another way to expel extra energy. I know he's older, but it's still possible.

He has plenty of toys and gets played with a lot. He doesn't care for catnip though.

I have some old pillows of mine I put on the floor as a cat bed. He's been laying there now, so I just close my door at night and that seems to be working so far.

Mine gets bored of toys easily. I constantly have to go out and buy him more of his fav kind of toys so he stops torturing me so much.

Good luck. Hope that works.

My cats favorite toy is a crumpled piece of paper, he goes nuts for hours, until he hides it and forgets where he put it.

My cat has always been pretty good, the worst thing he will do is climb on tables and knock pens on the floor. He won't play with them or anything, he just likes to watch them fall, but for some reason it annoys me. I think that's why he does it.

He knows what no and stop means, and will usually listen when I tell him to get down or away from something. Sometimes I'll have to pick him up and move him, and he'll "yell" at me, it's funny.

Mine does that. he tries to knock pictures off of walls though. He shreds my shower curtains a little at a time. He's gone through the blinds on my windows so many times that I have pieces of the blinds missing from bending too much. He paws my face while I'm sleeping. I jinxed him when I named him Khaos. Oh well. He's my life saver though.

Mine understands sit and lay down. He even plays fetch every now and then. Identity crisis? He yells at me all the time too. I can talk to him and he'll talk back every single time. It's like a conversation.

Don't let them fool you, they can be trained just like dogs. Of course it's much easier to train them as kittens, before they are smart enough to prentend like they don't understand what you're saying.

My cat is declawed. I tried to talk my mom into having the vet put those rubber things on the claws or some other alternative, but she got him declawed anyway.

He also got fixed, which I think is good for cats and dogs for population control and it does decrease some health risks. It also helped remind my cat to use his litter box. laugh
