Back in May we reported that Kinji Fukasaku's cult action-thriller "Battle Royale" was being converted to 3D in order to be re-released in Japanese theaters in November.

Now comes word that the gory film, which is one of the best-selling Japanese movies ever, will finally be available in North America. Anchor Bay has acquired rights to the 3D version, the original version and the sequel during the American Film Market. This will be the first time that "Battle Royale" will be distributed in the US due to Columbine and fears of a legal backlash.

Released in 2000, the gory film grossed $26 million in Japan and sold to 35 territories worldwide. They should just remake it if they're going to do that. Great film BTW.

No thanks. I don't want a shitty American remake. This is great news because it's getting a proper Region 1 release.

Too bad the sequel was lame.

Finally a reason to put up with those 3D glasses, the sequel was okay, not as memorable.

Yeah American remakes of Japanese works usually stink for some strange reason.

I read volume one of the manga. Hated it due to the gore! I mean it's a great story don't get me wrong! I think it just takes some getting used to is all.
