Grave Diggers A spade has broken into ground Where my country once grew seed. Indignation scattered As now the soil will bleed. Where once our heritage so noble Foundations solid home Has now been made a ghetto As rage consumes we groan. This hole was dug in plain view Naivety we're blind To kiss the silver serpent We pledge him all our minds. Our future and our children Not doing what was best. Right before our very souls This grave awaits we jest. A name we give and shovel Another full we throw. Scatter it around the hole And mound in awe it grows. Soon it will be filled with A casket called OUR COUNTRY. A mourning unimagined. For draped complacency. SadieLu 2/23/2009 |
