ACORN statement on New York
24 February 2010

Today in New York a group of grassroots leaders and organizers who have worked with ACORN for many years announced today that they are establishing a new, state-based organization. There was a similar announcement last month in California.

ACORN Communications Director Kevin Whelan issued the following statement:

"ACORN's national leadership respects the decision of this dedicated group of community leaders who have done so much to help make their neighborhoods, cities, state, and the country a better and fairer place. We know they will continue to do great work and we wish them well.

Bertha Lewis continues to serve as the CEO and Chief Organizer of ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) that speaks for low income families nationwide. (Ms. Lewis does not have a position with the new community organization that was announced in New York today.)

It's no secret that ACORN has had to fight hard to survive a series of vicious right wing attacks over the past year and half and that this has made it harder for ACORN to raise funds and organize and serve its members. We understand the desire of local grassroots leaders in some states to move ahead focusing solely on the fight to improve their communities."

CA and NY, two states the Dems survived the elections. Its no wonder ACORN has reestablished themselves in these two states.
I sure would like to see that organization go completely down once and for all!

THey already did in a couple states. They still need to get federal funding to operate and I don't see that happening with this new House.

They'll get funding if we don't pay attention and pressure the Conservatives to bankrupt them.

Boehner and Cantor initially pushed to strip their funding. I don't see it as a problem.

what did ACORN do again,, exactly?

Earlier in December month an independent report by former Massachusetts Attorney General Scott Harshbarger examining the undercover videos filmed in offices of the national anti-poverty group ACORN states the employees portrayed in the videos did not engage in any illegal activity, but the filmmakers, who refused to be interviewed during the investigation, likely did.

You are just going to refute anything I present on any basis that you can come up with. Acorn got BUSTED in a sting. What more proof of you need? their books also are under a lot of scrutiny right now anyways. Gee, I wonder why? Also they are under investigation for fraud. Oh but that doesn't count either?

The only Grass Roots they are into is Marijuana!

There was plenty of video proof of them breaking many laws. They are also being investigated for voter fraud and running incentives to get people to register Democrat via money, bonuses and prizes.

After being caught on video advising people how to get away with running illegal brothels, child prostitution, sex slavery and importing children and women as slaves from other countries to work in the sex industry.

oh, the EDITED youtube evidence,,,didnt people learn anything from the fiasco involving so called 'video' of Shirley Sherrod

the FACTS state that the EMPLOYEES who were found to be misconducting themself were actually reported by ACORN, as was their legal obligation

so I ask again, what was the organization found GUILTY of that would warrant pulling funds?
