Liberal Portland, Maine has this on their ballot this Nov. Don't need citizenship to vote. Also on liberalville San Francisco's ballot. So much for voting means something.

Your thread title is misleading. It says LEGAL residents who are not citizens. It also states local elections. So if you are here on a work/student visa or some other legal reason and are not a citizen you could vote.

I don't believe non-citizens, Illegals or dead folks should be allowed to vote.

But, politicians will accept them all.

"The Federation for American Immigration Reform, a Washington, D.C., group that advocates tougher immigration enforcement, says voting is a privilege and should be limited to citizens.

"People who are legal immigrants to the United States after a five-year waiting period can become citizens and become enfranchised," spokesman Ira Mehlman said. "But until then, being here as a legal immigrant is a conditional agreement, sort of like a trial period. You have to demonstrate you are the type of person we would want to have as a citizen, then you can become a citizen and vote."

I think if someone has broken no laws and is paying into the system, allowing them to have a voice is far from the worst that can happen.

That doesn't pertain to the poster boy in the article.

He is here Illegally. Check out he overstayed his VISA. Like OB Aunt.

It's in contra Federal Mandate;

Absolutely agree with this statement.

They live here legally. They should have a voice in how 'here' is governed.

Perhaps giving that much would cause a greater number to become 'legal'.
