Topic: Jobs you've had

My first job, at 16, was working
in a Flower Shop.

The proprietor also owned the
place next door, a Mortuary.

We had to clean the windows with
embalming fluid.

That certainly is a strategic move having those businesses next door. Not that much different from the thoughts I've had of moving my auto repair shop and opening a bar next to it. I already know of a nearby bar for sale with a shop across the street that rumor has is close to sale. While waiting for the car to be fixed, what better way to take up time by having a few drinks. Especially when it's time to pay the bill!

Let's see how many of mine I can remember!

first "real job" was at a pool hall & then my Dad caught me smoking & made me quit!

before that babysitting and cleaning houses

after that:

Hardees (the night manager fired me several times but the owner always hired me back the next day-lol! I asked for it a few times & walk out on him a few times too & again, the owner would hire me back! Said manager did hire me to take over the assistant manager position when he left so the current assistant could take his place!)

Whataburger
secretary/sales assistant at a car lot
photographer
nurse aid
telemmetry tech
phlebotomy assistant
MHMR supervisor (one of my fav's)
personal assistant
housekeeping
census taker
Burger King
Cashier at convenience store (many times)
toll booth attendant for parks & wildlife
Dairy Queen
hospice aide
Car vacuumer at Magic car wash
Dominoes
Newspaper mailroom (loved that one for some strange reason & worked some serious OT)
grad student
waffle house
customer service
call center agent
telephone sales
Avon/Mary Kay
Horse Trainer/Caretaker
Vet tech
Laboratory tech

I'm sure I have missed a few that weren't worth remembering

I applied at a Blood Bank once & didn't get the job because they were not able to work around my class schedule, but they did a personality analysis on you to see if your personality was suited for the type of work & it was pretty cool! they gave me a copy of my analysis too

The way I got into hairdressing.
Single parent with 2 preschoolers at home.
One in diapers. Back then, day cares wouldn't take 'em till they were over 2 years old.
Thinking about what kind of job I could do and still be available to take off if one of the kids got sick or something.
Thinkin' and a'thankin'.
Then, one night I was watching a movie.
Shampoo with Warren Beattie.
AH-HA!!!
He did hair dressing, named his own hours, got paid and got laid.
That was the job for me!
Did the whole 2,000 hours. Was waiting for the State Boards and got offered a Locksmith job.
Still did house call hair on the side. Great benis!!!

My cut specialty was the Dorothy Hamil and perm specialty was stack.smokin

After seeing some of these lists, I'm wondering if I'm too stable, too reliable or the total opposite. lol

Pretty good.
I do handyman and some welding.

Today, had some material left over and made me a triangle dinner chime.
Similar to this one.

I welded an old horseshoe on the top of it for the hanger.

I doubt it! You are likely just happy with what you do.

I've been working towards stability for a decade now, although there is much to be said for what I have gained in the 3 years I've been here on Doc's ranch, but it hasn't been easy to get there for me! I am more stable than I've ever been before & too close to getting my degree to give up & try anything else now!

Right on!

I loved stopping off for a few days in Roseburg and camping by the river.

Got my truck stuck in the rocks and a fellow with a 4-wheeler came and towed me out.

Other than collecting from deadbeats, bending myself into positions that humans aren't meant to bend and dealing with the stupidity of auto engineers, I do like my job. As Thomas Edison said, "Find something you love to do and you'll never have to work a day in your life.".

Yep, unfortunately what I wanna do isn't a paying gig & I need a way to fund it so I went to college & then kept going, almost done!
