Should you be nice to someone just because they are a friend of a loved one or another close friend? I mean, do you thik you are obligated to be nice and agree with whatever they say? My brother introduced me to one of his close friends that he works with. He is a nice enough guy, but he is extremely anti-government. And when I say extreme, I mean EXTREME. He is always trying to get people to sign petitions and protest against whatever cause he is into for the week. I believe everybody is entitled to their own opinions, but I don't agree trying to push it on everyone else. Would you politely just "smile and nod", or would you tell they guy you have no interest in what he is "selling"? I don't want to hurt his feelings, but he really gets on my nerves...hope this makes sense the way it is written.

i am so glad to hear you are respectful of your brothers feelings. the friend IS indeed annoying, but you are very right about the brother part of it. before you go off on the friend, let your brother know how you feel, so he can intervene(sp). if you let your brother know and he tells you the friend knows, and then the friend does it anyway, cut loose with some choice words that would make a drunken sailor blush. good luck girl.

i don't think it requires you to be mean. tell him you don't share his views, but appreciate the energy he puts into his. and if he don't like it, what have you lost? a friend of your brothers?? is that such a biggie?

You can be nice without having to agree with him. Just be polite but assertive.

This is really creepy. Seconds after I posted this topic the guy started commenting on my posts on facebook, telling me to sign up on some cite. I messaged him asking him not to do that. One time posting it would have been sufficient. Or he could have privately messaged me.

P.S. I have already spoken to my brother about it and he said he would talk to him. Guess it didn't work. Oh well, no law saying we have to have the same friends right?

i was going to suggest talking to your brother about it, get him to tell his friend to stop pestering you. you are not obligated to agree with anything just because this is your brothers friend... he is your brother's friend because your brother likes him. hes not YOUR friend. you can't impose friends upon people.
i think the proper thing to do would be ask your brother to tell him that you don't care about his battles. be clear about it! also tell your brother that if he doesnt tell his friend to stop, then you will.

Be nice to the people who deserve it! In my life i try to be nice to anyone just becaause i believe in the good of people; but, i'm not dumb to know that when someone does not deserve it i don't even make an effort to be nice.

You might sit down in front of him and sharpen a knife with a whetstone. Very effective to listen to the grinding and him watching you sharpen it.

You can be polite without having to play nice.

as a rule of thumb I dont discriminate so, Im generally a b!tch to everyone regardless of who or what they are.
