She was expected to get four kids fed before school, help get three out for the bus, clean the house and take care of the youngest, including bathing after accidents, do laundry and feed them after school when they home from school and help make dinner.....for $15 A DAY not an hour. The "days" were anywhere from ten to fourteen hours EACH.

She was taking the place of a parent for almost no money...try telling your babysitter that you are dropping their salary and increasing the workload and see what happens. I don't think it will go over well. (And three year old's need to be entertained and watched, as all of us with children know.flowerforyou )

Even at $7 an hour, that is more than twice what she was making for being a babysitter and a maid, she was getting paid $3 an hour on a short day.

my babysitter made 2.50 per hour if I break it down, but 125 per week , per child, is not bad money at five children

that was about what I made working full time, 12.50 per hour altogether

She was not making that per child, that was for all the children. I'm glad you found someone who would watch your children for that price but did she also do your housework for no extra pay?

Per child, per hour, she was making less than a dollar at 55 hours a week for $150 with watching four children and doing housework.

She was getting about 68 cents an hour, if you go by per child, per hour.

hmm its been quite a while since i babysat but when i did...i would charge just 2.50 an hour per child....

as for overnight stays...charge the same ... cause even when they asleep you gotta watch over them and be ready in case of any emergencies...or sometimes i'd be nice and just count the waking hours *shrugs*

but yeah...that does sound like an awful lot of work.

maybe look into what butlers n maids make an hour on the average?

hehe anyways something definitely has to be done...so hope it all works out for her

I know this is going to end up down in parenting section but....

What would you pay a 17 year old who is watching your three year old from 7:30 am until 4 pm or later and your three other children after they get home from school? They were paying her $30 a day.

Now, lady she babysitting for wants to pay her less than $3 an hour for watching, dressing, feeding and cleaning up and washing her little one who still has "accidents" in her pants. So that means Katie has to do laundry too and when the older kids get home, she has to put up with their attitudes. Not to mention cleans the kitchen after they all get fed. They have even asked her to stay overnight to help with the feed/cook for the kids and don't think they should have to pay her extra.

My daughter does internet schooling so she is helping with buying groceries because of hard times right now, with the money she makes babysitting. That is her choice to help with household bills, we didn't tell her too. She does her schooling at night when she gets home so she can graduate.

We pay $45 per day PER CHILD.

She did quit the job because the woman wouldn't pay her the original amount.

I'm just glad that my girls are old enough to not need any sitter.

Thanks everyone for your replies.flowerforyou flowerforyou

She's being taken advantage of. I would cut my losses.

First of all.. It depends greatly on the area. Every state and different areas have different incomes.

Is she CPR and FIRST AID certified? She should be for watching these children this long.

It also depends on if she can afford to keep a job with lower income coming in, or if she needs to find another one that she might qualify for.

Babysitter.. This sounds like a NANNY position to me, not just a babysitter. Nannies watch kids all day, Babysitters watch kids on date night, grocery store run, doctor's appt, etc.

In my area Nannies are going for $20+ an hour. Babysitters at 17 with no certifications are getting about $8 an hour and with certifications they get around $15 an hour. BUT I live in a higher class higher income bracket area.

If she's willing to stay watching the children for that price, that's up to her and her bosses. But she shouldn't let them screw her over either. Maybe they are all in agreement with the pricing.

With the money market right now, it's tough for just about everyone. So that should also be a little consideration.

I had a babysitter to keep my child for my last job, which I worked from 8-5, which means my child was with her from about 7-6(eleven hours)

she charged me 25 dollars a day

I also have taken my son (when he was younger) to a DAYCARE when I worked and they charged roughly 40 per day for similar hours

so the range of pay from an OHIO daycare, to a NEVADA babysitter was about 2.50 to 4 dollars per hour

For one child I can see 3$ an hour, but with others, your daughter is letting the others run her. That don't work with me, and trust me, they wouldn't like melaugh

Hopefully your daughter if she is doing the night thing. She is getting paid more.
