My friends children were running around the house and tripped over the power cord of his laptop and it fell about 3 1/2 ft now it wont power-up but when the power cord is in the power light still turns-on. Any ideas what mite be wrong?

OK, power light being on means the power adapter plug is NOT your problem...

Hook up an external monitor and see if it works that way first. (you may have to hit the function key + 1 other key to turn external video on)

If no picture, follow the next steps...
Take note of any beeps or sounds you may hear....
Take note of any flashing lights you may see... (numlock, cap lock, etc.)
Take note of the mouse if "optical"... (watch for lights)
Take note of drive accesses... (CD sounds like it's trying to read or HD activity) (sounds or lights)

A single beep or "startup music" means the system board is OK.
The numlock light or capslock light flashing or blinking once means the system board is OK.
An optical mouse "lighting up" briefly means the system board is OK.

My initial guess from your brief description is a faulty LCD.
Post your findings back here and we'll see if we can figure it out.
