I have been browsing through a lot of different profiles and on quite a few of them, I see either in the headline or somewhere in the profile, "just seeing what's out there."
To me, it sounds like they are equating searching for love/friendship to going to a grocery store. Ideas/opinions? |

I always wonder about that too.
This is what I think when I see it: the person concerned is not looking for a relationship at this moment in time. He/she may still be in a relationship which may not be going so well. They're probably looking around to see if they can find anything better than what they've already got and wondering whether it's time to bail out on their current relationship. I always steer well clear of people whose profiles say that. |

I think it means exactly what it says. For example, I'm not necessarily looking to jump into a relationship, but I am open to meeting new people and seeing what happens. Not necessarily a bad thing.

I always wonder about that too. This is what I think when I see it: the person concerned is not looking for a relationship at this moment in time. He/she may still be in a relationship which may not be going so well. They're probably looking around to see if they can find anything better than what they've already got and wondering whether it's time to bail out on their current relationship. I always steer well clear of people whose profiles say that. I think its like this. I don't really understand assuming anyone who says that is in an unhappy relationship. I guess the not concerned about looking for a relationship part fits me, though. I'm just looking to meet new people at the moment, then taking it from there. |

I don't see how peeps can read so much into a simple statement either.
Just looking could also mean that they're... just looking. Trying to learn about internet dating/life. Why is being unsure about things a crime?? Guess I better go change mine... I gotta do my best to keep the rest of the world happy.

I'm guessing the people who have issues with are the ones who are definitely looking for something more serious. But, I don't see a problem with someone just looking. I'd rather know they're just looking, rather than wanting to jump into a relationship right away. |

I guess all of the above statements are certainly possibilities.
I certainly don't mean to offend anyones choice of words, the grocery store thing is just the first thing that pops in my head when I see "just seeing what all is out there." |
