One of the hosts of a glitzy Hollywood fundraiser for Illinois Democratic Senate nominee Alexi Giannoulias last week has ties to organized crime.

Giannoulias attended a fundraiser in Los Angeles last Tuesday, where one of the hosts was Pamela Abdy, who has also contributed the maximum $4,800 to the Giannoulias campaign.

In 2007, Abdy was identified by federal investigators as the girlfriend of a married New Jersey mobster nabbed on charges he led a multi-billion-dollar illegal gambling ring.

Giannoulias aides said Abdy is no mobster and dismissed questions about her involvement as part of an orchestrated series of Republican attacks on the candidate's character.

Giannoulias has fought allegations of mob connections throughout his campaign for the Senate seat once held by President Obama. Republican foe Mark Kirk has hammered Giannoulias for $20 million in loans his family's bank made to convicted mobster Michael "Jaws" Giorango while the now candidate was the chief loan officer from 2004 to 2007.

Broadway Bank, since shuttered by federal regulators for insufficient holdings, is also reported to have made several other loans to mob figures, but the Giannoulias campaign insists that all client relationships with mob figures were managed by the candidate's brother and father.

For Giannoulias fundraiser Abdy, the organized crime ties go back to New Jersey, not Chicago.

According to the New York Post, in 2007 Abdy was captured on wiretaps talking with her former boyfriend, reputed Lucchese family mobster Joseph "Little Joe" Perna, who complained to her about trying to collect a $105,738 gambling debt but only coming up with $25,000.

The conversations were part of an arrest affidavit that preceded the roundup of Perna and more than two dozen other reputed Lucchese associates and members. Abdy's uncle, former Lucchese New Jersey boss Martin Taccetta, was also arrested.

The group was charged with running a gambling ring that raked in $2.2 billion in 15 months and used violent tactics to collect gaming debts. Perna was indicted this year on charges of racketeering, conspiracy, money laundering and bribery.

Giannoulias aides told FOX News that Abdy was not arrested for anything and was never even investigated. Those same aides point out that Abdy is an award-winning executive at Paramount Pictures, no longer romantically linked with Perna and that it's not fair to lump her in with her mobster uncle.

Communications director for Giannoulias, Kathleen Strand, called the story, "another ridiculous lie being pushed by Congressman Kirk's desperate campaign. His earlier attacks have been called out as false by independent fact check organizations, and this one will find the same resting place."

Kirk spokesperson Kirsten Kukowski responded, "The facts speak for themselves. As Senior Loan Officer at Broadway Bank, Alexi Giannoulias made loans to organized crime figures. Now we learn he's raising money from people with similar track records. The truth is that Alexi Giannoulias' association with mobsters and crime figures prove he lacks the judgment to serve in the United States Senate."

Chicago doesn't have a senator...Illinois does. And yes the whole state is dirty. The former dem governor and a former rep governor have both been convicted of federal crimes. A Dupage County board commisioner resigned under threats of stat rape charges, (rep) and a cook county board chair has been alleged to have commited all sorts of shady things(dem). It matters not which side of the aisle they walk onin Illinois they are crooks

Not to mention a former Senator and current President who had friendships errrrr associations with Domestic Terrorists.

Oh wait that same Domestic Terrorist sat on some board in Chicago too......

Not to mention just look back at JFK, Robert Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe as perfect examples of owing a debt to the mob, you end up dead.

I don't see any hard evidence only an implication because she used to date a man convicted of gambling in an organization crine ring or mobster. People change just because she once dated someone of disreputable past does not make her disreputable.........guilt by association is wrong.......you may associate someone with someone else just because you see them walking or talking together......never necessarily mean you can equate one persons actions with another......looks and assumptions can be decieving.......even if you see something with you own eyes......remember in school when they gave you a picture and you had to write a story describing the picture and how everyone came up with a different story with a completely different conclusion.........and maybe Chicago is corrupt but Chicago is not Illinois and you have a whole state voting and deciding via majority.....

In politics a major majority is 75% or more. He barely scraped by, 2012 we will fix that mistake and put Romney in there and get the job done.

I go by the percentage not the electorate. 52.92% to 45.66% and that he carried 23 states, just not the larger electorial states.

Yes they do if you knew he did it.

This guy allso clearly knew who he was doing business with. Mobsters are really well known. There is one here in Carson who lives up the street from me and he's a big celebrity and there is a family in Reno who own numerous casinos and properties. They have been proven to have mov ties and almost lost their gaming liscense over it.

It is big, everyone knows who these guys are and if they choose to do business with them then that shows what kind of people they are. Not to mention at a financial institution lending mulltimilliion dollar loans to known figures(which in a lot of cases has been how the Mob has laundered money from illegal activities, along with casinos).

I guess some like me still believe people arent still shots stuck in one phase of their life forever and that they can and do change. Love has been known to make poor choices just like lust has. Many women stay in relationships with men who are actually ABUSING them, but it doesnt mean they are bad people or supporting the very bad lifestyle their partner chose.

I don't care if they are Republican, Democratic or Independant. There will never be a "Clean" candidate or polititian from Ill. It has been gang land style politics since the early days of Prohabition when Al Capone and Murder Inc. owned the polititians and used local police as body guards.

It's sad, but thats the same thing that is still being done in Ill. to this very day and you can't deny it. Two Governor's in jail, a third on trial. Several congressmen and public office holders attempting to buy a Senate seat held by a guy who was close friends with a Domestic Terrorist and not to mention a political "Fixer" Rezko, who helped him by selling him half of his property making his portion virtually worthless.

Actually not really. Most people when they find out the person they love is into something deep like the mob or drugs will step away, no matter what. I am one of those people, and I have left somone I intended to marry because she got addicted to drugs. It may sound cold but I do a lot to keep my name clean and I will not have ANY **** around my daughter.

That is my priority, not love.
