2009 poverty and income data released today by the Census Bureau reveal that 43.6 million people are living in poverty. Not that I think that this administration is any different than the others we've had.

We need to quit leaning way left or way right, grab this problem and control it. Yeah... like that'll ever happen!!

Just curios as to what the "poverty level" is and does that ever change? (not talking cost of living change) Got a feeling todays poverty standards are a bit different than even 20-30 years ago??

good point, stamps were 15 cents, and gas was 1.15, so Im sure what would have been considered poverty level(11,200 for a family of four) then would have been quite a bit less than what is considered now( $21,834 for a family of four)

True but Im not talking inflation ...just seems to me that every generation seems to have bigger and bigger sense of entitlement and I wonder if that plays into the "poverty" description. I really dont know!

Why didn't Obama give us free money instead of the banks who screwed this all up in the first place?

I dont think its entitlement,, its based upon a food plan and an estimate that families spend about one third of their total income after tax on food,,,,

here is a more specific explanation

So are the income levels, inflation and costs of good so if they did a comparison to 20-30 years ago based on the income to costs rations taking into consideration that 20-30 years a ago gas was less than a dollar and approx 3, electricity average usage charges were lower per KW hour, gas and oil for heating cost less per gallon, and the average food bill per person has doubled since 20-30 years ago and more people are making less and unemployed per every statistical pattern out there then yes I would say it is definitely and increased poverty level taking place in the United States no the percentage figures I would like to see would be the poverty level percentages based on population from this year compared to the 1930's and 40's and the "Great Depression". More people per capita, decreased job potential in private sectors, increased costs in services and goods, without a stable viable way of income potential.....creates a poverty ratio of a higher amount of unemployed people over those working and paying taxes lower tax income revenues........creating less money for roads health and benefits schools etc..............more people wanting benefits and less money to pay them inflation through the roof and deficit beyond imagination.....remember infinity and how it boggled the mind that something or anything can be unending.....that's what the thought of inflation and deficit do to mine.........boggles it

At the present time, there is little chance of inflation rising.

Since our recovery is moving at a snails pace the amount of liquidity pumped into the economy by the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Dept means little.

The value of the dollar is next to nothing and with commodities attached to the value of the dollar the chance of increases in production costs are very minimal. 0% interest rates should have caused an increase in private borrowing and fueled an economic recovery. For what ever reason private borrowing is basically zero and without it, the labor market will continue to suffer.

Until they decide on their tax policy, the uncertainty in the private sector will continue to hamper any chance of a full blown recovery.

excess money.. rise in production costs.. low rates leading to credit expansion and high taxes are what you need to look for as causes of rising inflation..

excess money and low interest rates are here.. High taxes... hmmm we will see soon.. possibly 3 out of 4 come January 1, 2011..

You really think the downward spiral of the economy and standard of living started in 2008 when Obama was elected?
