Fact, knives are next to useless in a gun fight. Also comparing America to another nation is very fallacious becasue of cultural differences. Mexicans do not think like Americans. Koreans don't think like Arabs. I love how Apples get compared to Oranges and Mangoes! Japan is a society that even in the days before the Meji Era where the Samurai were banned they are OVERLY polite while Americans are varying in how we react to others. For the most part we are RUDE in comparison to Japanese people. They have their own brand of polite rudeness though and most Americans are too dense to know when they are being insulted. In China if you are not Chinese you are beneath them becasue they are Chinese and you are not. They will deal with you BUT the prejudice is there. They will be polite when they need something but if they don't need you they will flat out extort you and treat you like crap. That is not typical of all Chinese people thankfully but it is a cultural tendency and if you understand their culture you can get past it (by behaving with some REAL manners for once). I love hearing stories of some idiot American tourist acting like an utter azz abroad and then when they step over the line and get arrested suddenly "I am American and I GOT RIGHTS!" Um, Surprise, not in their country! But back on topic... Real gun control is putting the bullet on the target and not on other things besides the target! The days of the Wild West was portrayed by Hollywood and Italy (Where do you think Spaghetti Westerns came from?) was total BULLPOOTIE! It never was like Hollywood's version. Many times when you went from town to town you had to check in your firearm and your first visit was to the local Sheriff's office to get a brass tag to get your weapon back when you left town. If not he came with deputies and disarmed you on the street. There was more law and order back then than movies portray. There were very few "Daring bank robberies" back then too becasue you could bet guns came out of every nook and cranny and criminals had to survive a gauntlet of return gunfire from concerned citizens. Then they had to worry about being chased down if they did manage to get away and not get shot. Nope, still not buying into gun control. If criminals can get AK 47s I want my .308 main battle rifle. I would be happy with an AR-10 .308. While they (the criminals) like fully automatic I am fine with semi auto. I can hit what I am aiming at thank you! Peace through superior fire power. .223? Coyote gun. .308? That is a crime stopper! At least it isn't over the top like a .416 Rigby or .50 BMG. Gee, since some of these criminals are playing with hand grenades maybe I should also get a grenade Launcher while I am at it. Then later I can save up for my trident Missile with a six pack of 2.5 Megaton Thermonuclear Warheads! I'll nuke my enemies off of the planet! THAT'S THE TICKET! I love slippery slope logic! I am not sure of the CURRENT statistic but about two years ago there was a 60% chance of being mugged as a Visitor to London. f that 60% over 70% of the time it would be at gunpoint (100% of the time handguns which are COMPLETELY banned in England!). The other 30% at knife point. About 30% of those assaults would be by a band of criminals. The rest of the time alone criminal. EVERY SINGLE TIME A GUN BAN IS ENACTED VIOLENT AND ARMED CRIMES GO WAY UP! You cannot take a tool away and expect that to solve the problem of armed violence. People will just switch up weapons! Most anti gunners and advocates of Gun Control are self righteous idiots who choose to ignore two facts, one is that human nature has a pre-disposed tendency towards violence (Here is a saying you should get used too, You can paint over the stripes of a Tiger but that does not change the nature of the beast!). The second is the overwhelming proof that gun control fails to put crime in check. So what are we supposed to do? Someone goes on a killing spree using a screw driver so we remove all screw drivers? How can anything get fixed without them? A gun is a tool. It is used by an operator. If that operator chooses to do the wrong thing with his tool he needs to suffer for the consequences of his actions. Not make everyone else pay for a few stupid idiots. Even children as young as 8 have gone on shooting trips with my groups and they exhibit more responsibility than the adults sometimes. Lack of education is the biggest problem. Fear of guns is irrational! Fear of idiots with guns is not. Idiots with guns fearing others with guns taking them out if they get stupid is deterrent force which is also good! Hell some of these Homeless trash wandering our streets are actually beginning to get more aggressive and it may become necessary to carry a gun just to protect yourself from that trash. Thefts are going up here in LA. So is violent crime. The economy has something to do with it. Human nature has the other half of the equation. Desperate people do desperate things. Stupid desperate people do Stupid desperate things! I want a gun for those moments of stupid desperation so I do not become a victim of stupidity! Need I say more? You may applaud me now!

I know people are too 'fearful' or 'gun ho' to ever give up guns but I sure wish they werent so EASILY obtained and that there were the same type of psychological test required for gun owners that there is for cops. That is funny! defensive much? was there a doctors degree somewhere in your credentials,,,,? my brother who is both trained in martial arts AND a doctor would certainly agree that a bullet is much more likely to create a fatal wound than a screwdriver and that it would take MUCH more effort and skill to cause such a fatal wound with a screwdriver than it would with a gun not to mention one would actually have to emit PHYSICAL effort and CLOSE contact to kill with a screwdriver, unlike a gun which any coward can use from a safe distance I called noone hillbillies, and I have no issue with patriots ,, just the crazy ones who are willing to turn to violence to express their 'patriotism' |

one has a much better chance against a 'screwdriver' than a bullet, not to mention screwdrivers are not CREATED to kill. I know people are too 'fearful' or 'gun ho' to ever give up guns but I sure wish they werent so EASILY obtained and that there were the same type of psychological test required for gun owners that there is for cops. There are far too many 'patriotic' types who feel they own the definition of American behavior and who are willing to harm to enforce it,,, More testing and yearly testing to own a firearm of any kind is badly needed. I can't imagine a less regulated gun world. The wild wild west went away for a reason. |

There could be more potential threats to citizens than just a lone criminal with a gun or other weapon. As long as the gun owners pass extensive psyche evals yearly and have no criminal record and no history of violence even against animals or anything. |

That was found to be a violation of our constitutional rights as INFRINGEMENT! I believe that was back in the 1960s??? We already have some stiff standards like if you were a felon no gun for you. If you have a history of mental illness no gun for you. If you have a history of Domestic Abuse no gun for you in many states now. Violated Controlled Substance laws, no gun for you.
