They say 350ppm of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere means we can prevent runaway climate change.
Unfortunately we haven't seen 350ppm since 1988 and CO2 has been increasing by 2% per year since then.
The consensus is we are past the point of solving our problems by trading in our Hummer for a Prius or changing our light bulbs.
There is a global grassroots movement of 1077 groups in 109 countries that are planning work parties for Oct 10, 2010 (10/10/10) to send a message to their legislators.
I'm curious what everyone here has planned or is doing to help decrease their carbon footprint. If you're curious about what you can do visit www.350.org/map and find out what's happening near your home.

Life with fossil fuels is wonderful. China and India and all those new cars...

Profits are up and GOD FORBID we go to Bio Fuels becasue our big oil money would dry up!

Then again we also are having increased vulcanism and that farts out gigantic amounts of CO2. Also with Siberia thawing out methane emissions are way on the rise which is another green house gas those propeller heads do not talk about too much becasue they got laughed at thinking it was cow farts. ALL those square miles of Siberian Peat decomposing puts out so effing much Methane it makes all of the farts cows make seem very insignificant.

Global warming is a myth. The earth has gone through hot and cold cycles since life crawled onto the land! WTF? Does Ice Age mean anything? I guess not.

Face it, not only is the biomass and industry having an effect but there are other forces at play too propeller heads do not like to take into consideration.

Its selling fear and doom!

Vulcanism? Spock is out of control!!

I know you meant volcanic activity but humans produce 100 times more CO2 per year than volcanic eruptions.
There is actually a period of global cooling after a major eruption like Mt Pinatubo in 1991

But seriously, as China's population becomes more materialistic they will probably want the same number of cars on the road per capita as Americans then they will be producing more CO2 than Americans.
BTW Americans produce more greenhouse gasses than any other country...

'Carbon footprint' is like 'bigfoot' and the 'chupacabra' ... fictional. I fully intend to drive my gas-guzzling big-asss American Road Master with the marshmallow ride courtesy of huge air shocks until the numbers on the odometer follow in the footsteps of the numbers on my '77 PimpMobile Lincoln and lose all their paint. I will NOT have my lifestyle dictated or imposed upon me by the scientific illiterates who are stupid enough to believe every piece of pseudo 'science' that AlGore and the IPCC spoonfeed 'em 'cuz they're incapable of feeding themselves.

I can totally relate. I never thought I could live without a car. However, living in Mex. I realized that it has the best transit system Ive ever seen. I can walk out my door and grab a bus or cab in 2 mins. It made me realize how a car isnt a neccesity rather a luxury and one I cant bring myself to pollute the planet for.At least not just me alone. I also became very interested in passive electricity once you start to research its horrible! So now, I have everything running through energy saver power bars which are shut off when not in use. I cant change the world but I can tidy up my corner. flowerforyou

Do you think every generation had this responsibility?
For the most part, my parents always had a social conscience for everyday situations like not pouring cooking grease down the kitchen sink or pulling pollution control equipment off the family truckster to get better fuel mileage.
I'll paraphrase what you said about keeping your own corner of world tidy. It's a lot of little things people can do without sacrificing anything that all adds up to make a huge difference.
