Ladies, if you break off the engagement do you give the ring back? Guys,... if you break it off do you ask for your ring back?

I'd say no, a gift is a gift, but when my wife and I seperated, I did ask her to take it off or move it to another finger.

If you're just engaged and don't marry, you are supposed to give the ring back.

When I divorced my ex-husband my ring was already gone. It was one of many things pawned to afford food (at the time) for my children.

The rest is history smokin

A gift should be given without strings once its given its gone. However, to take an engagment ring and not go through with the marriage, is probably the exception to that rule. It should be returned. Period!!

In the case of engagements, the ring is considered a conditional gift by law (some states vary on the law)
