i'm not big on coverbands but they aren't all that bad. if you work a
bar it can be alright but i'd rather hear something original. |

I can't knock them..spent the better part of 10 years fronting cover
bands. The 2 I had the most fun with was a band called Tyrant, a Judas Priest cover band and Argsbargies, a Pink Floyd cover band...not sure how we came up with the name but I'm sure we were good and stoned when we did lol |

Well, I've been in music for 18 years, 8 out of the 18 on drums. For
what I've seen and have experienced, starting a cover band IS NOT a bad thing...not at all!! You kind of have to. You have to see how the band clicks as a team! See what you guys can REALLY achieve together! Number 1 in all of it...it's teamwork!! If you can't play covers together, then it's ALMOST definite you can't write originals together because doing originals is A LOT harder than covers. Once you get your set lists down, go play the bar scene for a while. Play around for a while and get a following and a fan base of people who REALLY like hearing you. Then, as you're playing the bar scene, start writing your originals. THEN, you have the teamwork and the following. Take the couple of originals that you wrote and play them for your big following you have to see how they respond and ask them and tell them to BE HONEST!! If they say they're good but, inside, really don't like them then, you'll never know if your originals will make it, if they don't tell the truth. If they don't like them, ask them what they think should be changed or what would like to be seen played more! Get your ideas from your fans because they're the fans are the ones who either makes you or breaks you. If your music is liked, then you'll go far and if they don't like it, no one will want to hear you hence, you'll never make it and a record label won't want you. But, yeah, I would say covers first! But, #1. Remember Team Work!!! and #2. Get your following.....then move to your originals. Originals won't be any good unless you have someone to play them for. |

I, personally, like them. What separates the great ones from the cheese
is how incredible some of them really are. For instance, take "Strutter", the KISS cover band (they are awesome!): I saw an interview with Peter Criss (the drummer for KISS) and he was asked if he had ever seen Strutter. His response? "HELL YEA!!! They are even better than KISS!" lol I seen "Clear Light", a Pink Floyd cover band, and they were incredible. Came out with pig masks and the works. |

Up here on the tip of superior lake we have a band, I think they are
called Hair Ball, not sure. Anyway, they do alot of old great stuff. The best part is that they do it all in costumes of the original artists. Its a blast to see. Its the only local band (that I know of) that the bars impose a cover charge for. |

I have only seen a couple cover bands. One was OK the other sucked. It is nothing against it not being the original artist but I feel they should be able to play the song, LOL. The one that was OK lacked a stage presence but played and sang well. I forgot who the OK cover band was doing. The one that sucked was a Black Sabbath and the music was a bunch of noise as they were not playing in time with each other. So bad they left a long lasting impression, LOL. |

i appreciate the feedback everyone .conciquently ive been around the
cover scene here for awhile workin with a couple bands doing some lights and sound mostly setup...ive noticed its really hard finding people who are as dedicated as me and the guitarist i swear nobody wants to learn songs note for note they just want to throw it together and we dont wanna do that cause i think it shows if it just slapped together what do you all think am i being too critical.. |
