In the jewelry store, they have a single rose, that was dipped in gold.
Not really that expensive. I like the way bla8ant describes choosing.

Just get 2 tickets for a hot air balloon ride and have a very romantic
trip across the countryside. Very adventurous, fun and exciting! Kissing
in the clouds with the world below your feet!!!

" I think something in a pot
would make a statement about commitment, but a dozen red roses would
definatly set the evening mood to romantic"

It all depends on where in the relationship you are, and what you are
trying to tell her. Are youpast the first couple dates andwant to tell
her you are happy being withher and want toget to know her better? Then
I would suggest the possibility of a potted plant. If you are looking
to make her smile and enjopy just that evening then go witht he bouqet
of flowers, although as others have said roses they do not have to be.
My personal opinion on that one is roses for the first date (yellow or
white, never red as it suggests too much for a first date) and special
occasions there after, along with an occasional surprise of them. Any
other time. and especially for an official "date" take her a different
kind of floer arrangement, either carnations, poppys, whatever looks
good or you know she likes.

I personally try to choose different kinds of flowers all the time so
they dont get repititious, or taken for granted, along with a little
keepske like a stuffed bear, or coffee cup (if she likes coffee or tea).
And then again iwill tailor it to what we are doing for the evening.
classic dinner and a movie I will bring a bouquet of roses or carnations
(same for a picnic). If we are going to the beach to enjoy the day,
then maybe su=omethign she can wear with her outfit, like a corsage, or
single carnation, etc.

Womderful suggestions everyone... I ended up just going to the florist
and saying "give me something pretty" This was our second date and my
first gift to her. She loved the flowers. And the something pretty I
ended up with was Stargazer lillies.
