with any intelligence, that is.
Some will call it sincere. ![]() Intelligent folks will see it for the lame attempt at political posturing that it probably is. ![]() The Dems who voted it in wanna' tell their "people", they are concerned about our well being and the security of our nation. ![]() I'll look at it after it materializes. ![]() Senate Dems push border security bill August 5th, 2010, 12:25 pm Dena Bunis, Washington Bureau Chief With just hours to go before the U.S. Senate leaves for a five-week August recess, Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York is leading a group of Democratic senators to push for a vote on a $600 million border security measure that includes unmanned aerial drones and 1,500 new enforcement agents. The bill is $100 million less than a similar bill the House passed last week and that Senate Republicans tried to get passed a month ago. Schumer, who chairs the Senate’s immigration subcommittee, said his measure has a major difference with the House bill: ”It’s fully paid for without increasing the deficit by a single penny.” The bill the GOP tried to get passed last month, authored by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was paid for using stimulus money and Democrats, including Schumer, objected to it. Sen. Dianne Feinstein is one of the co-sponsors on Schumer’s proposal. Included in the $600 million is $176 million for 1,000 new Border Patrol agents to form a “strike force” that would be deployed along the Southwest border as needed; $32 million for drones to do unmanned surveillance on the border; $80 million for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, including $50 million for new personnel. The bill is paid for by increasing fees on visas for temporary skilled workers from those companies that have more than 50 percent of their workers on the payroll via an H-1B visa or who are multi-national corporations who liberally transfer their employees from overseas offices to the United States. The Arizona immigration law has catapulted immigration – particularly border security – to the forefront in recent weeks and as lawmakers go home they want to be able to tell their constituents they are working to secure the nation’s border. POSTURING! ![]() Schumer said he plans to try to get his colleagues to agree to a vote on this bill Thursday. It will be a test, he said, on whether senators are serious about the issue. But Republicans are likely to try again to pay for the bill using stimulus money that wouldn’t kick in, they say, until 2014. If such a stalemate can be avoided, it’s possible for the House to vote on a Senate-passed border security bill next week. House members thought they were leaving for a six-week break last week. But the Senate this week passed a $26 billion bill to help states with Medicaid expenses and for federal education aid to save thousands of teacher jobs. After that vote, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi decided to call the House back for a vote on that measure on Tuesday. So conceivably the House could also vote on a new border bill. http://totalbuzz.ocregister.com/2010/08/05/senate-dems-push-border-security-bill/38913/ Fire Pelosi and retire Reid! |

'government' today is nothing more than the street game called 'three-card monte' taken inside a pretty building to con the American people. It's played behind closed doors by sleazy politicians in expensive suits and dresses on a better table that doesn't fold up ... but it's still the same game.

I don't give a rat's asss about 'party' - that's part of the reason we're as effed up as we are now ... I give a really BIG rat's asss about PRINCIPLE, tho' ... I want a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC ... you know, like America had once before in the past ...

dems, repubs, what difference does it make as long as something is getting done? It will be a big surprise "if" it get done. That's what I'm waiting to see. A year ago, troops were supposed to be being sent to El Paso. Never happened. |

That's a big 'IF' ... they sure as hell can't 'work together' now - remember when the Communists locked the 'pubs OUT OF THE ROOM during this 'congress' ... ? It is to laff - but it's too serious to laff ...

It is to laff - but it's too serious to laff ... yea, thats what i'm talking about. things like that, from either party, is very counter productive. |

I think it's prolly close to a 'given' that the 'pubs will re-take the House in November ... to me, that's not a 'solution' - last time the 'pubs had the House AND Senate was '94, and they had NO idea in hell HOW to use the levers of power - the Communists were OUT of power then, but they never quit ACTING like they were still the majority ... credit where it's due - I despise the Communists, but they have a clear agenda and they enforce it ruthlessly. If the CONSERVATIVES - forget 'party' - did the same thing when they had the opportunity, MAYBE we could get something done to reverse the effects of this Communist regime's actions since '08.
