Every person that's about a 3rd generation American is a mongrel.

That actually can be said about all Americans, no different that Bill Murry calling us "Mutts" in "Stripes." No other president (Bush 1 or 2 or even Clinton) could have got away with saying that about the black culture, only American culture in general. However, I doubt that six second clip really shows the true intent of the statement, especially since he's cut off in the middle of a sentence.

The American melting pot must be set on "off" because no one is just an American anymore. Proof that a hyphen can destroy a society, everyone wants to be a ______-American.

yeah, its usually taken different when someone refers to themselves than it is when they refer to 'others'

the context in which someone includes themself usually takes away from a feeling that they are trying to degrade or look down on others
