Think about it - a CRACKDOWN on FARM DUST. Does it get any more effing ridiculous than THIS ... ? This is your EPA doing Obama's bidding to make the United States a NON-COMPETITIVE NATION and the newest large Third World country on the map. 'Hope' and 'Change' ... right - you got it. Unfortunately, so did those of us who knew it sucked ...

EPA to Crack Down on Farm Dust

Posted: Jul 30, 2010 11:52 AM | By Jacqueline Sit, NEWS 9

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is considering a crackdown on farm dust, so senators have signed a letter addressing their concerns on the possible regulations.

The letter dated July 23 to the EPA states, "If approved, would establish the most stringent and unparalleled regulation of dust in our nation's history." It further states, "We respect efforts for a clean and healthy environment, but not at the expense of common sense. These identified levels will be extremely burdensome for farmers and livestock producers to attain. Whether its livestock kicking up dust, soybeans being combined on a dry day in the fall, or driving a car down the gravel road, dust is a naturally occurring event."

Read the letter to EPA signed by 21 senators including Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn

Many in the Oklahoma farming industry are opposed to the EPA's consideration. One farmer said the possible regulations are ridiculous.

"It's plain common sense, we don't want to do anything detrimental," said farmer Curtis Roberts. "If the dust is detrimental to us, it's going to be to everybody. We're not going to do anything to hurt ourselves or our farm."

Roberts, a fourth generation farmer and rancher in Arcadia, said regulating dust in rural areas will hurt farmers' harvest, cultivation and livelihood.

"Anytime you work ground, you're going to have dust. I don't know how they'll regulate it," Roberts said. "The regulations are going to put us down and keep us from doing things we need to be doing because of the EPA."

Oklahoma Farm Bureau President Mike Spradling said the rules could be detrimental to farmers across the Sooner State.

"We as an organization do not feel dust is a pollutant," Spradling said. "It would almost be impossible to comply with what's being addressed now from the EPA as in agriculture. We're doing everything we possibly can."

"It's just common sense, we don't like dust in the morning but it's something we got to live with," Roberts said.

Geez!!

Farmers are already regulated as to how deep they can run the disc.

That was because it was found that sever winds could blow away the topsoil.

Dirt dust is, in no way a pollutant. Many of the minerals in dust are beneficial to life.

I think, the BS comin' out of politicians for special interests contains the toxic materials.slaphead

So far he and this administration is doing nothing to put the brakes on this either. This will hurt the country like criminal immigration so he won't do anything to stop it.

Ms. Harmony, I don't understand why you even bother in this section. There's no intelligent debates, it's just people slamming and getting all over anyone who has a different intelligent response.

Farm dust?

Okay I will agree that this a bit much.

And it probably isn't good for the farmer to breath it in all day while he works his farm but it is a natural hazard of the job.

As to it being Obama at fault, not.

i agree, that damn dust is a pain in the azz. these bills should stop it completely, then we will have to pass a bill that limits space dust from coming down. maybe we can pass a bill to keep the ILLEGAL dust from mexico and Canada from coming in our country. it's only a dream, but someday we can have a dust free america.

just a question,,,,does anyone know where to read the actual BILL, or are we all just tagging on to what we have read about others opinions about said bill?

I'm a farmer, I breath quite a bit of dust every year. You can put a mask on your face when cleaning a soybean grain storage bin, and have just as much dust on the inside of the mask as on the outside. It's part of the job, much like I'm sure singed hair is part of a fireman's job.

Even with "no-till" farming, there is dust. The roads we drive on, dust. When we die our bodies turn to dust. I'll say to the EPA, when the time comes, just try and enforce the law. You'll end up jailing all the farmers because we will not be able to pay the fines. When no one has food, we'll see if the complaints are about dust, or hunger.

Oh and MsH, I'm sure this is just another "Obama doing it wrong thread." If he'd of signed a bill today that said the EPA had to back off, this thread would have been about "Obama doesn't care about farmer's health."
