Maybe AB, maybe????
I wanted to pass it around, but I couldnt compete with the companies
employing illegal immigrants, and I was not willing to take away from
the Americans, who were already living friday to friday on what I could
afford to pay them!!I would have loved to give them more, but I was just
barely making more myself!

Wrong on all points except for the obvious point that we are now
competing against (talking retail now) countries with a lower cost of
living which directly relates to COGS. How do you compete against that?
Unions constantly force employers to pay exceedingly higher wages for
employees than the market will bear. Tax the hell out of the businesses
simply because you can. on and on and on. Factor it all in to the cost
of doing business, add a profit margin, and voila! You have a price tag.
Other countries come in with the same product for a lower price due to
the lack of mitigating factors that caused our pricing and what do you
do? You buy the cheaper item. Common sense. Solution? We could close the
borders and kill competition which would surely bring back the Chevy
Vega, the Pinto, and the many other Volgas we produced when there was no
competition as well as many other inferior products. Competition is a
good thing. You didn't abide by the first rule of business. Many many
construction businesses fail in the first year. You did very well (I
could use youbigsmile drinker ) The Mexican crews in this area don't
compete with us in what we do. They compete against themselves in
drywall, siding, and roofing. I would be a fool to get into that arena
with them. They keep lowering their prices competing with each other
that they will eventually find that they can make more money in Mexico.
We do a lot of commercial build-outs but a fair amount of residential
work as well as charity work. I have two dedicated handyman technicians.
I am currently posturing to take on commercial building repairs and
maintenance with assigned crews at each office building. I have one
customer service rep., two crew leads and nine technicians. We are
constantly booked a month out even with the housing market in the tank.
How do I do it? Networking. Word of mouth. Large ad campaigns. But that
is neither here nor there as I am sure it worked for you as well. Small
businesses have always struggled and always will..... even after
becoming "big business". Yeah, it sucks when your GM hands you a stack
of payroll checks totalling ten grand for the week, A/R is behind the
curve, and your quarterlies are due so you wonder how you will purchase
materials for the week but I won't quit. I will adapt. I am having too
much fun. drinker drinker drinker drinker drinker drinker

Concerning tarrifs, we would like to export our goods as well, eh? Raise
the tarrifs, they raise tarrifs. Tug of war. Why not just close the
borders to trade? The Ford Ranger plant here could reopen to make
another piece of crap on wheels, say, a Volga? laugh laugh laugh

America wasn’t hated so much prior to the Bush administration.

If we survive until November 2008 we might have a chance at a come back
in world favor.

Almost anyone who gets in has got to be better than Bush. I just hope
that whoever it is turns out to be a good diplomat. George Bush
couldn’t pass a pre-diplomacy exam at the kindergarten level.
Moreover he seems to be totally undemocratic. Strange for a man who
claims to want to spread democracy.

George Bush has been the nightmare of the world for the past 6 or 7
years. Not 9/11, not terrorism, not radical regimes, but our very own
George W. Bush.

All things pass, including this idiot’s terms in office. Thank god
for that!

OK, Zap I'll leave it.
LOL
Just one mmore thing. I do think Unions got greedy, outlived their
usefullness! They were a good thing once, and if you could weed out the
greed they would be a good thing now!

OK two!!!laugh laugh
Everyone is not cooperating with the idea of lowering tariffs on our
goods! Besides, we have the largest market in the world! We purchase
more goods than anyone in the world. For now, but without good paying
manufacturing jobs we are doomed!!!NO money, no buy!!! Mickey D's dont
pay enough to buy even cheap ass Toyotas after awhile!!!

Fanta, I hope I didn't portray myself as anti-union because I'm not. I
think they are still viable in certain segments of industry but there is
a catch 22 as a result of them being there. Take the textile industry
for example: without unions to protect their workers wages, the industry
would lower wages in an effort to compete and with many of the workers
having done nothing but work in the mills since they started out at age
16, they would be hurting for sure. The Dalton mills; Pittsburgh steel;
Gary, IN; West Virginia coal,trucking/shipping, etc. are some ndustries
that benefit from unions. Now on the flip side of the coin you have the
airline industry; automotive; agricultural equipment; teachers (yup, I
said it) the state worker's unions, road workers and heavy equipment
operator's unions, etc. that are like a tapeworm Sucking their host for
no other reason than to grow. They, like the government, stifle
competition which would keep pricing in check within the competitive
window giving less opportunity for imports to flood our markets as the
demand would not be as high. This also applies to the service industry
in some segments. Off to work! Later! drinker drinker drinker

Yes AB, there are a lot of bright people here who are not taking drugs
and drinking a lot of alcohol, However, read the statistics, there are a
lot who are. Outside of that there are a lot of people who are simply
not smart and many who are not educated, not necessarily a completely
overlapping group. The point I was trying to make is that not everybody
is aware of what is going on and not everybody cares that much anyway.

The actions in Venezuela and Iran where the governments were taken over
were both well thought out. They look like simple social movements but
they were never anything that simple. They were planned and orchestrated
and implemented well. The process in Venezuela lead to a functional coup
without violence. So the other point I was trying to make was that
people planning and executing nefarious plans are not necessarily
recognized by populations that are not bright, educated and paying
attention. While you may not be hitting the bong, don't kid yourself
that nobody else is.

I noticed that nobody commented on my list of people who would come to
the aid of the United States and the people here so I'll repeat the
question originally mentioned by RED

"WHO IN THIS WORLD WOULD STEP IN? WHO'S SIDE WOULD THEY BE ON?
WHY? And the inevitable question, WHO WOULD OFFER AID TO THE
AMERICANS CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE?"

In my opinion lots of countries would help, from Europe to Asia and
other places but most of all Canada and Mexico. This country is often
maligned, but we have strong allies around the world.
