Last year on this date my nephew David(27) was at work in Harlem,
working historical reconstruction of buildings. He was on the sidewalk
over a manhole cover mixing some cement when a manhole explosion
occurred. It threw him up in the air 30 feet, he fell into a
construction site dumpster.They rushed him to the hospital where he
almost died.Both legs were broken, shattered, knees blown out, ankles
shattered, after the initial surgery he was told he would never walk
again. After 14 surgeries, blood clots, blood infections,numerous months
in and out of the hospital and rehab, David walks. It will be a while
until he can walk with out the aid of a cane or walker but he walks. He
suffers greatly from pain when he walks too much or doesn't wear the
right shoes.Through it all David never once doubted he would walk again,
he never once got depressed or sad, he plugged away each day making
small strides in recovering, he never once gave up. In my eyes David
embodies the words courage, strength,determination, life. I thank God
every day for not taking him when he could have. I helped raise David so
we have a very special and close bond.

I titled this thread L'Chaim!!! for a reason, it is Hebrew and means, To
Life!!!...a joyful expression. So a toast.. to life!!

A story if inspiration. We need more of these. I'm very glad that David
has recovered enough to walk and that God has given him the strength to

To life...and all the Glorious and Miraculous things about it...

Ohh girl I remembered last time we had talked about David he was trying
to master the stairs and was having a tough time This is truly great to
hear that he is doing so well and to have the courage he does. I will
hold David in my prayers hoping that day will come that he will be pain
free.
