As I was walking out of a supermarket the other day I saw someone's notebook on rack of gumball machines near the exit.

I was sitting at my window, having a smoke. The lighter lit up the darkness and everything seemed yellowed and old for a second and then back to blackness for just a second. I saw nothing in that quick blackness but the bright street lights so far across the fields behind my house. And then there was this brilliant flash of lightning that filled my world with blue dazzling brightness that stirred me. So quick I could have missed it but the luck of the world is with me I feel because I didn't.
It made me think of our nature as people and I realized that people are like the night. Vast beyond sight, brutal and sometimes terrifying but when the light of clarity comes you see them for what they really are. And that's a beautiful sight. |
