I for one can say it is not a choice.I am shy at first. It probably is because of the pressure, like Mayhem said. For me, it is mostly being centered out.It makes me feel awkward.I get the same way when being photographed.lol.Believe me when I say it's more painful for me than you lol.It would be a dream to change it and feel at ease.Give the person some time, they will warm up and you can see the great personality shine through. *I believe this is harder for some to deal with than others. But I believe once people start talking it breaks the ice. You know .. you can "QUOTE" (ie put other people's wording in a separate box which helps us all see what THEY wrote and what YOU answer .. ) by clicking the word in the right hand corner that says "QUOTE" .. and typing below it .. Just sayin Like this? |

I think at times I can be shy, but I tell you one thing - I may be patient, but I HATE "fishing" for conversation... You know how you might ask a brilliant open ended question, and you receive a short, simple sentence... AND topic finished. With me, some people are just easier to talk with (notice I said "with" and not "to") than others. Can't really explain why - but open, honest facial expression always helps - as well as some light-heartedness.

I am very thankful for that, but even with that gift, I've found times the convo goes stalemate. Talk about wanting to get the heck out of Dodge eh? |

There's always a time or two in every date that you get that "awkward silence" moment... I usually just say "don't you hate awkward silence?", then we laugh and it's on to the next topic...

Sometimes people are nervous when meeting. It's just the way it works. Once you meet and start talking, things get better. If they don't, then you need to make a decision whether to give the shy person another chance or not.
