Is your modem up and working?

|
|

run CCLeaner and scan your computer for malware!
You can also right click the wireless icon in the start bar (lower right hand corner of the screen typically) and "repair" the connection. |

really dumb question for you....Do you have all the log in stuff, ie, to the wireless system, to the internet, etc? Do you have the router plugged in to the broadband correctly. I have worked on a few where they had plugged their incoming wireless antenna into the wrong port....If you are like me, ya feel really stupid when you find the prob after hours.....just trying to give a few suggestions....willy

I know what is going on now!
The router is not recognizing the IP address or somehow it is not assigning one to the new computer. Unplug your router. In my case I have a cable modem and a router. In all cases turn off ALL equipment including the computer. Turn on the cable modem or whatever your first modem is then the router. In the case where the modem and router are one in the same turn IT back on. Then turn on your computer. the router will reassign IP addresses and you should be able to get online. |

You also may have a bad security setting in your router too.
Still try a blanket shut down and reboot. |

I can connect to the router, but not to the internet, what could be the problem? Restart them all in this order, and wait for each one to boot up (about a minute) before turning on the next one, in this order: modem, router, computer. |

Being that its a new comp, you have to add the mac address of the computer to the router. Cool thing called security.

Thanks for all your help. Will give the reboot option a try and see.

if you can connect to the router but not to the internet, you have one of two prob
1. your computer is not configured correctly. 2. your router is not configured correctly. to troubleshoot the prob, you need to provide more info about your set up. |

I'm having basically the same problem. I've tried all the suggestions listed in this thread. when I try to have Windows repair the connection, it fails, saying 'Windows could not renew IP adress' Now I am connected via a networking hardwire directly to My wireless router.
Any help? |

It's a USB wireless adapter that I am attempting to connect with. Do I need to disable the other modem that I am plugged into now?

It's a USB wireless adapter that I am attempting to connect with. Do I need to disable the other modem that I am plugged into now? Not necessarily. Is the wireless adapter trying to connect to the same router you are running the wired net? |
