Why is it so under rated? Could it possibly just be thought of like the internet used to be thought of? From a lack of knowledge of it? Do you suppose that everyone that talks on the phone are having phone sex? Are most people behind times that are on the internet? My suggestion is try it before you knock it. Now if someone is talking dirty to you in emails or in chat rooms and you agree to talk to them on web cam more than likely they might take off their clothes. <remember though you are choosing to talk to that person> I have talked to any people on web cams and it really very rarely happens.
It is no different than talking on the phone other than honestly to me its better.. you get to sit with that person while talking to them. nothing tells you more about a person than facial expression. You would also be surprised that many people do not take good pictures either..
I talk to my son on web cam as well.. for he lives over 1000 miles from me now.
I have talked to women on web cams, talked in groups of 8 on web cams<that is actually really fun> talked to many minglers on web cam ha ha flash back one fell backwards in his chair lots of my better memories comes from web caming.
they are great too if you want to make sure that pic is not 10 yrs old!! or it is really the person you have been emailing with.
these days they have voice with the webcams <sure didnt when i first started web caming in 2002>
anyhow just my thoughts on it.. dont knock it unless u have tried it. and dont let others rule it out for you.

I am seriously looking at "Skype" for using web cam with grandkids, amy opinions & is it worth it? Any bad side to that idea?

For the most part, I have no desire to sit and watch someone typing at their computer. Pictures work fine for me. Seeing them in person works fine.

It's free, so why wouldn't it be worth it? This is an instance I can see where webcams are a good idea.

im a bit naive with skype.. i did use it once yrs ago.. i think they just had voice on that before.. skype use to be more like a free long distance phone <on the computer> now there are so many different sites that have both available.. i use yahoo 10. I guess cause back in 2002 they were one of the first that even had web caming that i knew of. they have just much improved all the options there.

yea you dont have to type. you can voice chat whilst web caming.

some people you may never get to meet in person.. say if you have a friend in another country and neither can travel. so it gives you an option.

That's fine. If it works for you, that's great. I can use skype and the phone for voice chat and it works well for me. I just don't have the need for using a webcam.

I think its a great idea!!! Its got a bad rep cause alot of people automatically think sex when webcam is mentioned but thats not the case!! My brother has one and we talk to my nephew in the Army quite often, I wouldnt worry about it, just do it!!

I think skype is the best one to use. Yahoo seems to slow my laptop alot specially since many places i get deployed to do not have very reliable internet people should try talking on cam it better to hear there voice and see them specially for soldiers we love skype its lets us see a piece of home :D just my two cents sorry

yea its not for everyone. im glad that you do reach out and use extra tools for communication. i know that some as the case before i got one, had not a clue what it was. and got one to talk to someone and learned what a nice option it was to have

I do have a webcam. I only got it because I am supposed to use it for meetings at work, since our team is so spread out. It doesn't actually work with the application we use though.

i think that is a very good bargain your 2 cents for you get the feel better of being there with your family..

they can be quite distracting sometimes for meetings.. like when someone is eating something lmao!!!!! ive seen that before

I hate it when we conference a business meeting via the web and I forget that im just wearing a shirt and stand up and show my junk all in the camera....its embarrassing sometimes

I thought that was the best part about working from home and just using a webcam for meetings... only having to be dressed from the waist up!

True, Peccy and I used web cams alot. It helped alot with the distance issues. At lease we could see each other and chat like we were sitting across the table from each other.

I use my Web Cam to talk with my friends and family, I've also used it occasionally with someone whom I'm interested in.
