Down in Arizona and South Texas, Mexican troops have been seen crossing the boarder. There are hooded squads going around killing people involved in drug trafficking and its a drug war down there that involves the Mexican government. Assassinations of politicians who get in the way. You can't tell the 'good guys' from the 'bad guys.' Maybe they are all bad guys. United States citizens are terrified. I want to know why you don't read about this stuff on the news more often. Why is it being kept so quiet and low profile? Even in Colorado people (illegals) involved in drug traffic have been found burned alive and left in a field, reason unknown. Even in my small town. Even in Ellicot CO. I think the Bush family was very much involved with some of that. Commando's were trained in Texas by our people to fight the drug lords, and then they turned against us and joined the drug pushers. Our tax money was spent to train them. I was reading about this a couple of years back. Its a war zone. I don't know all the details about this Arizona law, but they are desperate to do something. Further south... beyond Mexico, there dwells in the jungle some people say... nazi's. They are slipping over the boarder with the illegal Mexicans. They are basically terrorists and drug dealers. Somebody has to do something. This is a free country, for Americans. But how do we keep the terrorists out? Two things, first off the media is controlled, so the reason this isn't being talked about is because they don't want the people to know, simple as that. Second, you mentioned how do you keep the terrorists out. Here's the scary thing, that a lot of people don't realize or don't want to accept. The real terrorists come from within our governments, creating fear, making things happen to keep that fear going. There are mind control techniques used within our military ranks to this end, research MK-Ultra, been going on for years. So in short the true terrorists aren't those in other countries, so much as those running the show in general within the governments. |

I totally agree, but that is a truth that so many people are not ready to hear, I don't talk about it much. There are deeper truths that most people just can't handle. The method, to keep governments in power, and give them more power, is to create the problem, then invent the solution, tax the people, and convince them that they need the government and the new laws (that give the government more power) to solve their problems and keep them safe. We should turn in all our guns because guns are dangerous, they say. But statistics prove that communities where carrying a concealed weapon is common, there is A LOT less crime. (Alabama- $10.00 for a concealed weapons' permit) My mother-in-law had one. I lived there a year. I lived in Dothan, in the inner city. There was just not a lot of crime there. I heard of one attempted robbery of a woman in a parking lot, and she pulled a gun on her assailant and scared him away. Yet, in Washington D.C. my car was broken into and my camera and money stolen and the police station was on the same block. They were so busy with murders and other violent crimes they laughed at me for reporting it. They told me they were too busy to be bothered. I was a tourist. |

....this is not necessarily true. It is true that there are some places without concealed weapon laws with less crime but there are also places with them with less crime as well,,,, its a big country,, its hard to make a definitive case for or against concealed weapons Alaska, which doesnt require permits for concealed weapons, has a higher crime rate than Illinois,, which does. Those comparisons can go on for days on either side,,, |

(Robberies and such) I can't quote any references for this, but I'm sure the information can be found. In my experience, living in Dothan Alabama, I could see evidence that this was true. (Very little crime there.) It was very easy to get a gun and a permit to carry it there. In Colorado, it would depend on the county you were in but in the larger cities almost impossible to get a permit. I saw lots of crime there. Of course its a larger place. |

You know what the simple reason for this would be? Where guns are less common or harder to be had legally, it leaves people unarmed to defend themselves, aka easy prey for those that actually desire to commit crimes. Compare that to places where the populace is more likely to be armed, and you can understand why crime would be down in those areas. All gun laws really do is punish those who want to protect themselves, and protect those that regardless of gun laws are gonna commit crimes, by leaving their victims without any good defense. |

Some of it almost seems like common sense to me though. I mean, think about it, if a city is known for it's citizens being armed for protection, don't you think that would discourage legitimate criminals from trying anything? Yeah you may have accidents or what not now and then, but that's a part of life. |

Read the book:
"More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Lawsby The analysis is based on data for all 3,054 counties in the United States during 18 years from 1977 to 1994. His conclusions: Criminals are deterred by higher penalties. Just as higher arrest and conviction rates deter crime, so does the risk that someone committing a crime will confront someone able to defend him or herself. There is a strong negative relationship between the number of law-abiding citizens with permits and the crime rate—as more people obtain permits there is a greater decline in violent crime rates. For each additional year that a concealed handgun law is in effect the murder rate declines by 3 percent, rape by 2 percent, and robberies by over 2 percent. Concealed handgun laws reduce violent crime for two reasons. First, they reduce the number of attempted crimes because criminals are uncertain which potential victims can defend themselves. Second, victims who have guns are in a much better position to defend themselves. REVIEW OF HIS BOOK: "Law and economics professor John R. Lott Jr. presents reams of evidence that violent crime decreases in places where laws are passed permitting concealed weapons. His explanation is that even criminals respond logically to benefits and costs: they don't like to attack people who might be packing heat.…Lott's pro-gun argument has to be examined on the merits, and its chief merit is lots of data.…If you still disagree with Lott, at least you will know what will be required to rebut a case that looks pretty near bulletproof."—Peter Coy, Business Week |

A tale of two cities: Morton Grove, IL and Kennesaw, GA ...
Morton Grove, IL enacted the most restrictive gun ban ordinance back in the '70s. Guns were collected, and eventually the logical scenario played itself out: Criminals were the only ones with guns, and their victims were defenseless. Morton Grove had to eventually rescind its gun ban and let citizens arm themselves again when their crime rate went thru the roof - as if no one couldn't have seen that coming. Kennesaw, GA has as one of its laws that all adult heads of household must, unless prevented from doing so by religious belief, own and know how to use firearms properly. Kennesaw, GA has virtually NO crime to speak of. An ARMED society is a POLITE society. |

Hinkle - U.S. Trends: More Guns, Less Crime
http://www2.timesdispatch.com/rtd/news/opinion/op_ed/article/ED-HINKLE15_20100114-180004/317636/ Give a gun to each person in the United States - desiring to lawfully carry it for self defense. This person must be a law abiding citizen (no criminal record, age 21 , no mental history, you know...responsible). Make sure he/she knows how to use it for self defense (proper training). You'll see violent crime drop substantially. * Here's the obvious: If you're a criminal - do you break into a house where a little old lady will shoot you or where a helpless victim is easy prey? * If you're a criminal - do you care anything about the law? Obviously not! Isn't it naive to believe criminals will follow gun control laws? * Why have we let our government legislate us into becoming potential victims? Criminals have guns while law-abiding citizens are left helpless. * Why should criminals carry guns while law-abiding citizens are prohibited? * Why add more gun control laws when criminals clearly ignore existing gun control laws? * Any gun control that restricts law-abiding citizens is ridiculous - we're not the people who commit crimes. * More guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens will lower crime and make the world a better place. * One more quick point: If gun control works - why is crime so high in Washington D.C.? After all, guns are barely allowed in D.C. http://www.squidoo.com/moregunsequalslesscrime |

U made a great point!! Most people dont realize the MOST dangerous people are ones who have guns that shouldnt!!! any idiot can buy a gun and randomlly kill at will!! I own 2 guns from my past years of hunting, and keep them locked away!! Guns kill people period leave it up to the professional law inforcement agencies to inforce it, NOT amature gun happy saps that will shoot , first and ask questions later!!
Oh yeh, leave it up to the government to protect you. Good luck with that when the crap hits the fan, (like at Katrina.) Guns don't kill people, people kill people. (Haven't you heard?) Besides, a criminal should be deathly afraid of those "amateur gun happy saps." And you can bet they are. Look at the facts. You can place your life in the hands of the police if you want. ... but what if the police are evil? ...what if the police are not there when you need them? |

I just don't consider statements themselves to be 'proof' or evidence. What I was looking for was proof to back up your statement. Perhaps a link to a particular study. I tend to believe the studies I have posted and the information compiled in the book "More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control." that makes absolute sense. Trust me, it irks me when people post statements as fact with no evidence backing it up. Your question was more than reasonable and I provided a link to a site where one is free to compare the numbers themself if they dont want to rely on others interpretations of the numbers. I know of many articles and studies,, showing both sides of thr more guns/less guns debate. I find that both sides have reasonable assessments but my logic causes me to believe there is more in question than what the gun laws might or might not be when it comes to crime deterrent.... |

Oh jeez, I guess we just gott shoot first and ask questions later!! My dear in my nieghborhood Ud better hope the are around cause even if U had a gun, U would be taken down in a heartbeat!!! They know U would hesitate to shoot, then theyd have your gun and then U AND U DONT wanna know what they would do to U!!! Well I don't want to have to "hope" that a cop will be there when I need one. In my small town we only have a couple of cops and a few sheriff officers. They are not well trained either, in my opinion. Secondly, no one should underestimate whether I might "hesitate" to shoot. I don't believe in pointing a gun at anyone unless I intend to use it - if I need to or if I am in fear of my life. A person in fear of their life is liable to pull the trigger out of shear terror. Also, I live in Colorado where we have a "make my day" law. Anyone breaking into my house is fair game. I can shoot them...legally. Don't think I wouldn't given the right circumstances. Lastly you spell "U" YOU. This is a forum, not a cell phone. |
