a few of the posters here may recall about 6 months ago, my darling eldest son and his partner (now fiance) offered to buy me a house...


After falling in love with the shabbiest house on a little street, and that eventually being decided against, a block of land was purchased, and house hunting began in earnest.

Tossing ideas around, costings, budgets, etc....I got my wish, my want, my dream.


I'm a bit of an ethical tyrant....this house needed to be made of timber, without felling trees....as for me, I believe the spirit, the ambience of the occupants, is embedded within timber, it soaks into the essence of the wood...

It needed to have plenty of natural light and airflow, and a sense of history....it needed to be a house with a minimal carbon footprint, as little impact on the earth as possible.


So we agreed on a removal house....an unwanted house, that is on prime land, and instead of the landowners bulldozing the old house, getting giant trucks in, to relocate it elsewhere....and rescuing it.


Three days ago, the most wonderous sight appeared at the end of my street...a prime mover, with a giant humpy back in tow...half a house on it's back!!!

and minutes later, ANOTHER giant prime mover, with the other half of the house..


Lots of jiggling, grunting, engineering magic later....the darling old girl ...(she's 60 or so years old)...is in position on her new land.


To build a timber home here, with the same timbers of the size and dimensions, (she's 190.8 square metres of living space)... she would have cost over $600 000 to build...(many of the timbers in this house are not able to be sourced new anymore)...

instead she cost $121 000 inclusive...that's the purchase of the house, the transport of her more than 250 kms, the positioning, the restumping..(putting her on stilts)..a new corrogated iron roof, and gutters.

We have a giant 6 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2 kitchen, 2 living area HOME awaiting us.


Her name will be 'ASYLUM'....when the new shiny garments (paint) adorn her, and she has the sound of running barefeet on her wooden floors, and laughter echoing through her rafters..


I am so very, very humbled by my beautiful generous hearted son, and his darling wife-to-be...

I have slept in a tent in a jungle to A beautiful farm with my ex and kids but my dream home is in the Black hills of my Lakota ancestors, desolulte, no pollution, bright stars and the northern lights to boot!! Elk and wolves and eagles seranading U all day and night, Heavan!!
