This should make you blood boil **Students Kicked Off Campus for Wearing American Flag Tees**
Posted by Nick Gould at 05:43 (FB)
I saw this on Fox News This morning, and was outraged. The younger generation step up and supported our country, our troops, and their freedom and for that they we asked to leave school. REALLY this Vice Principal should hang his head for turning his back on his own country.

Nick G.

****Please Read****

On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill,CA,Daniel Galli and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing T-shirts with the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially on a campus with a large Mexican American student population.

Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the vice principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal's office.

"They said we could wear it on any other day," Daniel Galli said, "but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today."

The boys said the administrators called their T-shirts "incendiary" that would lead to fights on campus.

They said if we tried to go back to class with our shirts not taken off, they said it was defiance and we would get suspended," Dominic Maciel, Galli's friend, said.

The boys really had no choice, and went home to avoid suspension. They say they're angry they were not allowed to express their American pride. Their parents are just as upset, calling what happened to their children, "total nonsense."

"I think it's absolutely ridiculous," Julie Fagerstrom, Maciel's mom, said. "All they were doing was displaying their patriotic nature. They're expressing their individuality."

But to many Mexican-American students at Live Oak, this was a big deal. They say they were offended by the five boys and others for wearing American colors on a Mexican holiday.

"I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day," Annicia Nunez, a Live Oak High student, said. "We don't deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn't do that on Fourth of July."

As for an apology, the boys and their families say, 'fat chance.'

"I'm not going to apologize. I did nothing wrong," Galli said. "I went along with my normal day. I might have worn an American flag, but I'm an American and I'm proud to be an American."

The five boys and their families met with a Morgan Hill Unified School District official Wednesday night. The district and the school do not see eye-to-eye on the incident and released the following statement:

The boys will not be suspended and were allowed to return to school Thursday. We spotted one of them when he got to campus -- and, yes, he was sporting an American flag T-shirt.

First of, Cinco De Mayo was created by Corona to sell more beer.drinker
Second off, I think that if bandanas are against school policy, then the boys should have taken those off without any questions...
But not the rest of their clothing! They are allowed to wear basically what ever they want. It's freedom of speech. Wearing your nation's flag is NOT really that disruptive...when you're in your own nation.

Exactly! I think the bandanas did not break school dress code, it was that they were the Amer Flag.

And in the real article .. some Mexican teen said we should show respect for their holiday and that they don't wear their colors on 4th of July. WTH. If we went to Mexico on 4th of July I would not in ANY way be offended if they were wearing THEIR flag on our Independence Day. I'm in THEIR country.

This is ridiculous! Tolerance my a**!!!! pitchfork

Cinco de Mayo is the Mexican independence day, just as the fourth of July is the US indepenance day. I agree that the steps taken against the students were, for the most part, unwarranted; but please get your facts straight before you speak. :)

Fax the principal and tell Nick Boden, Principal how you feel about their discrimination.

Update from the school district.

The Morgan Hill Unified School District does not prohibit nor do we discourage wearing patriotic clothing. The incident on May 5 at Live Oak High School is extremely unfortunate. While campus safety is our primary concern and administrators made decisions yesterday in an attempt to ensure campus safety, students should not, and will not, be disciplined for wearing patriotic clothing. This matter is under investigation and appropriate action will be taken.

More like illegal. Discrimination is illegal. The vice-principals action was contrary to school board policy. Even some of the school board members broke policy and acted illegally.slaphead

I see both sides of this.

But....I feel that when four friends (boys) plan to dress the same and show up at school on Cinco de Mayo wearing flag bandannas and flag t-shirts, it's to start a ruckus at a school with a 40% Hispanic population.

They were asked to remove the bandannas and turn their shirts inside out. They refused and were sent to the principal's office.

I feel that the principal was trying to keep peace at the school and teach the boys how to be respectful of other people's feelings. I've seen the principal at my child's school do that before - teach the children to respect others.

Winx, I agree in the sense of keeping peace/respectful of feelings. But these boys were those shirts often. Not just in the face of this holiday that was being honored. And bottom line is .. we are Americans every single day. There should never be a day, in our OWN country, where we can not display that fact. EVER.

IF .. on the other hand the boys were doing it ONLY to stir up dissent then that's another issue. ie .. if motivation wasn't patriotism but arrogance.

ohwell I would say it depends on the intend of the boys actions. Were they trying to discriminate against other students? If so, then they were wrong. it is such a touchy subject when it comes to race/culture/nationality ect. I think its near impossible to be political correct- your always going to offend some one somehow by just having an opinion.

Sad to say .. but most definitely accurate.

First and foremost F Cinco de Mayo! Second F This BS. Third of all I am really getting tired of all this BS overcompensation top placate "Minority" (FOREIGN) azzholes and their political sensitivities!

Granted that the Bandanas were over the top BUT the T shirts? NOT! Had that of been one of my kids I would have an attorney all ready and have a law suit in motion!

The matter is under investigation...

Just a fancy way of saying "swept under the carpet!"

Again this is America and NOT Mexico. I am getting sick and tired of catering to them! Time for the Beaners to go home! they want to stir up sheet here they need to leave! if you are here and you are American you had better get used to the idea we have our own flag and not your own. This is not Mexico or any other country for that matter. I hope that the people responsible for this action get what is coming to them in the form of job terminations!

Jesus Christ this is getting sickening!

History and facts rarely have anything in common.

The Mexican side border towns are celebrating all week long. A lot of hispanic kids parents kept them out of school on May 5th.

Couldn't help it. When someone tells another to " get your facts straight " when they, in fact, have the facts WRONG...I think that calls for a " shutdown " lol

But...Singmesweet beat me to it. I hadn't read through the whole thread before I posted that.

One of these days, I'll learn to read all the way through before I post...lmao

The sick thing about this is that if this was reversed and it was 5 Mexican kids suspended for wearing Mexican Flag shirts the ACLU would have already had the law suit filed. We would have protests and riots across the country initiated by criminal orginizations like La Raza.

Oh boy have times changed. If they think it's disrespectful to wear OUR flag in OUR country then they need to go back to Nexico.

I am surprized that these two kids arn't being called racists yet.
