So, I got a summons for jury duty on Tuesday at 9AM. I get off work at 7AM (hopefully).

Will I get in much trouble if I fall asleep waiting around for them to make any decisions?

I did Jury Duty in '05, it was a very long day. At 1PM they called names for people that were staying for a case. I was one called. We waited another 2 hours and they came and told us it was settled out of court.
The main thing I can say is- bring a book.

Depends....do you want to be selected to become one of the jurors?

Yeah, I'm thinking The Tibetan Book of the Dead. Should be big enough. If I can stay awake. And I have to work again that night, so it should be real interesting.

No, Mayhem, as a matter of fact, I don't want to be a juror. I did warn mom and my brother they might have to bail me out as I put human for race, and didn't and won't answer the "fair or impartial juror" comment on the card they mail out.

Well...Id say keep falling asleep. Then they might think you have a medical condition. Dont tell them your just coming off of a midnight shift...lol.

Why not?

It's they're problem that they want me, and they're interfering with my sleep.

Well...I was just saying that if you didnt tell them that, they may think you fall asleep all the time. So they wouldnt want you falling asleep while on the panel listening to the lawyers.

Well, I'll probably do that anyways, as being on a jury really wouldn't interfere with my job, so I'd probably be stuck doing both.

Wonders if I can drool on demand, then. LOL!

If you want out of it just tell them you have an infection and have to pee a lot. Done deal, you're released.

The law of averages suggests you probably will not be selected. If you do, it will most likely be a long day. Most jurors involved in deciding a trial will be there until about 4 or 5 PM. It's too bad you cannot ask your employer for the night before off. Well you could ask, but I'll be willing to bet they won't give you the night off regardless of your reason.

Hahahah! You are funny. No, I doubt they'll give me the night off too.

I can only hope, but lately they've been taking everyone and tossing them in the various cases, and the jurors find out the next morning that the case was settled. A friend of the family got stuck with that. I was her backup on taking care of the animal sanctuary when she got called.

I am on jury duty now too. The first time I was called in was in February. We had to be there at 8am to watch a video and we were there until about 3pm for jury selection. By the time we were all picked....the guy had actually decided to change his plee to guilty so we never ended up going to trial. Thank goodness because it was a rape case! But as for getting into trouble.....we had 2 older ladies fall asleep and nobody said anything to them.

I think the system is a joke, unfortunately, and $6.00 (oooh wait, it's $40.00 if picked) a day is an insult. So, no I have no interest in being on a jury.
