WE all have individual strengths and weaknesses and either we should be permitted to hit ANYONE back or NOONE back.

Not saying ladies arent equal to us, just saying for the most part men are physically stronger in a confrontation!!! And NO, a man should never hit a woman, subdue her maybey if a child is in danger, but if U are a real man, U do the right thing, no ifs ands or buts about it!!!! On average how many men get abused compared to women? I know this I worked with abused ladies and kids as a vollenteer in college, and it marked them for life!!!

hey mikey,,, I totally agree that abuse is abuse,, I just disagree it should be defined by gender. I think this double standard is why so many men dont report abuse. The comparison is that abusive women are harmless and victims and abusive men are just animals(all because of gender). I think this double standard is also why more men dont report being raped(it happens) or taken advantage of by women.

I believe once we say its 'less wrong' for one gender to violate the other , we are opening a dangerous pandoras box.

I can agree with that but I have never personally dealt with males that suffered that I only speak with my experiences, I am not saying its O K because NO abuse is right!!! I am also an animal protector, smae story for me, in my Lakota religion NO one has the right to harm a living thing unless for protection to save a life!!

I have seen tne other side, I have brothers and a son and I know that women can be strong, and can hurt and can be vindictive. I have a brother who was involved with one who constantly assaulted him. He was too macho to ever report her but the minute he got sick of it and lost it and actually hit back,, guess who was FIRST to cry victim,,,,,,? The female gets an automatic pass for ANY aggression she has committed the moment a male hits her BACK,, and I think thats just WRONG.... there are two sides to every story and the male should have a chance to epxress his as well without being automatically demonized.

I am sorry, but I stand by my philosophy,, if you hit, EXPECT to get hit back, whomever you are.

Not every body that admits and seek help actually turn out good MEAN stop being abusive maybe THATS why most people gets abuse .. sitting waiting and praying THATS things are going to get better but deep within yourself you know it won't but yet you refuse to let go ..

and thats another issue people miss,, only the people involved have a TRUE sense of what their partner,,,is capable of or not

I respect that!! But I was taught in the army how to fight and kill, NOT a great experience when U are 19, I swore if I ever got out of war alive, I would do my best NOT to see anyone hurt again!!

I'm sorry, I like you Mikey, but that is B.S. to me. MsHarmony is right and so am I at least in principle, that no man should ever have to tolerate or take any kind of physical abuse by a woman. If I could change the laws, I would. You hit me, you get hit back, with equal or less force. But given the current laws, men must run away like little cowards or we face arrest and incarceration. So guess what, if you buy that cliche of men are stronger and physically superior to women jazz, you've obviously never been assaulted by a woman, and you are fortunate you haven't. I have, and they can do some serious damage when they're out of control with rage. So the universal rule is that nobody should hit anybody, but if you cross that line, then expect a retribution.

The problem is, we don't know how many men get abused. The statistics aren't there. Men who come forward are looked down upon, and are essentially shamed into keeping quiet. I've known male cops who hide their bruises under long sleeves because they can't come forward.

It's just like these women who claim to be gang-raped by the football players. No one knows how many other women end up keeping quiet because the few who have come forward (rightfully or wrongly) have been verbally screwed over in the press.

We don't know because we speak down to those brave enough to do so.

I think many men are abused and they don't come forward often because of the stigma...being ridiculed, harassed. Stepping up and saying ..a woman abuses me, hits me. The same on those rare occasions that women rape men. People laugh and it isn't fair to these men.

My maternal grandmother was one of them..she would smack my pop-pop around all the time, he never did anything..ever. I had seen it and I actually would yell at my grandma and then she would smack me. He never left, he never touched her..I don't know why or understand their relationship. But was troubling as a child.

Sad so many mis-treat others. So confusing when it is those who say they love the one they abuse...

I believe that most women stay in abusive relationships because they have very low self-esteem. They believe that they have no value as a person, that the person they are with is the best they can get, and that they may deserve the abuse they receive.

These relationships are tragic because they get progressively worse. The abusers never reform, no matter how many times they promise to or how many counseling classes they take. They often conclude with the death of the spouse (woman). Many times, law enforcement fails to heed the signs of progressively increasing domestic violence.

No female deserves to be violently beaten. If the presence of a spouse or loved one drives you to a frenzy, it is best to walk away.
