Topic: Cali is done for! | |

so my friend the other day told me that theres gonna be this huge earthquake in about a month this year thats gonna seriously tear california apart and send us into the ocean along with surrounding states and a huge part of texas. she says this was predicted by some philospher in the 1600s called nostradumus or something. says he predicted hitler, world war 1 and 2, the kennedy assinations, 9/11, hurricane katrina and other crap lol.
of course i dont believe this, just thought this would be something that might be interesting to discuss for us californians |

Hey, I will soon be owning Beach Front property in Arizona!
Thank you Nostradamus! |

I heard from a geologist that a big quake was likely very soon. They have been working their way north. There was the one in Chili at the end of February. Los Angeles in March, then Mexico/Baja in early April. Another one in Central California on April 7th.
I hope we don't have one! I work downtown San Francisco on a portion of land that used to be water but was filled in with sunken ships and debris. Then they built office buildings and docks on top of it! |

I hate to say this but it is likely that San Fran IS indeed next. You are sitting right in the middle of the cycle where San Fran gets slammed. The thing is you sit on the same fault line that runs past us. long faults move like caterpillars where the back moves up and the front catches up. Eureka CA is also due and they get slammed even harder! Also Alaska shares our love too because the San Andreas goes underwater until it hits Alaska. You also have a volcano near by (Cobb Mountain south west of Clear Lake) I suspect is about to go bang any time soon as well. It has been seismically active DAILY. Here in Los Angeles we have the Newport La Brea fault and two others (one off shore near Malibu) that are being watched carefully. California is checkered with fault lines. the thing is we live in an area where the continent is shoving against the pacific ocean's plate and the land here is very fractured. That means expect the unexpected at any time.
Welcome to earthquake country! |

Yikes! Now I feel a whole lot better. I think the best I can hope for is that I am at HOME when it hits instead of stuck in the city under my desk.
I didn't realize that about Alaska or about Cobb Mountain. Learn something every day. Thanks Andy. BTW - lived in earthquake county my whole life, it's always in the back of your mind. |

i`ve been getting nervous ever since the recent big quakes in different places. we`ve had a couple of small ones in Southern cali recently (for some reason, that makes me feel a little better). if i die in 'the big one' i`ll really regret not having traveled more.

SO glad you guys aren't getting hit too hard!
I still have a condo out your way that doesn't pay for itself in rental income. It would be OK with me if it fell into the ocean. Jus' sayin'. |
