I was thinking about a gem of advice my mom gave(she gave so much),,,,, it went like this (paraphrasing of course)

The easiest thing in the world is for EXTRAORDINARILY ORDINARY people to nit pick and tear apart ORDINARY people who prove to be EXTRAORDINARY in some way,,,, but its still best to strive to be one of those ordinary people who are extraordinary in some way, than one of those ordinary who want to set the standards for the extraordinarily talented...

anyhow,, my mom and dad taught us alot of things like that which ALWAYS stuck with me,, I think its why I tend to be able to see SOMETHING redeeming in anyone

what tidbit or gem did your parents leave you that helped to shape your character? what tidbit or gem are you leaving your kids?

My parents were racist, controlling, stifling, oppressive, pissed off little narrow minded people....they taught me that I didn't want to be anything like them!!

Nope, I'm with them guys ^^^^, and add in physical and emotional
abuse...I felt so special and loved.frown Seriously though, no
matter what I went through, I knew it wouldn't be forever, that
once I got out...to never treat ANYONE, but especially my own
children that way. I've always felt that everything I went through
has made me "me", and I love me (and I don't mean that in an
egotistical way  laugh ), so it all turned out good.

Well, since at least a little good can come from the bad, we
all have to admit that if nothing else...we were taught to be
strong, self-reliant, and stand up for ourselves. Also we
hopefully acquired a variety of other useful and productive
traits, skills, and behaviors to convey to and pass on to our
children. We learn from EVERY situation, good and bad, we just
have to apply it in the right directions as we go along later.
That's why I don't necessarily believe that future actions
can be blamed on previous behaviors or people, we have our own
minds and wills.

My mom taught me that just because you have a college education doesn't mean you are the smartest person in the world. She also taught me to take pride in who I am and to not let others bully me into being who they want me to be.

She placed honesty and love above all else.
