massagetrade.....
what you have to say is intelligent, thought provoking, and respectful.....

tell you what......i'd like to hear your explanations on things that are fact, merely because they exist in this plane on earth, but puzzle the general public...and everyone else on this planet. if you will please, to answer as much as you can for making these statements....fair enough? and i request that you back up your statements with facts for me and everyone else here, .... we'll just go with oddities, because dimensions, and finally ghosts are just too speculative...... First, i'd like you to tell me who made these neolithic sites in the world, and why, since we have no really good answers, just speculation.... although the technology of some of these things cannot be duplicated today, like the top block on the pyramid of giza could not be lifted by anything we built until 1984, which was the crane in jacksonville that lifts nuclear reactors out of the St.John's river..... but that block?... it was up there over 5,000 or so years ago.....
and why organically cut granite by the Incas at Cusco that you cannot fit a razor blade through, and some of the rocks are bigger than a small house.......frigging amazing....
http://www.andeantravelweb.com/peru/gallery/photos_sacsayhuaman_cusco_peru/sacsayhuaman_cusco_06.jpg

and we can't match that today.....AT ALL!!! i carve rocks, and work with metal, with modern tools... and i'm puzzled. i want the secret, so gimme!laugh they are also earthquake impervious....the spanish built their buildings on them and their stuff falls down, but those rocks don't budge! explain if you can. i have ideas, like super-heat melding, but the size! that would be a lot of heat. so, what did they use?

i would like, if you please, answers on Ankor vat, Externsteine, Petra, egypt, and why they do things that defy all logic, like mayonaise not spoiling at all for two weeks inside the great pyramid, and they finnish the sandwich and not get sick, and here at our picnics, it spoils in three hours and you get sick,.... and razor blades stay permanently sharp as well, even with constant use......(really weird) but! those same razor blades get dull with five uses when they are removed from the pyramid.....explain, if you can....these things can't be written off so easily....

if you don't want to answer these easy ones, because they ARE concrete, and do exist, and cannot be dismissed i understand... to voice an opinion, to suggest that there might be nothing, because the world isn't flat anymore, and the fifties black and white style logic has it's place, but not for everything, we know too much grey exists now.........but if you can come up with answers to those puzzles, (and with the answers here, you just might be smart enough to pull it off) you could change my way of thinking.

i'm not trying to be hard on ya. i'm an observer, i don't "believe" in anything, but i am fascinated by our surroundings, what they can do, the possibilities, and have just happen to run into things that you have yet to see, and experience, but you will, in due time. that, my acquaintance, is inevitable. it could have been you, not me, just as easily, on the other side of the experience, and years ago, around a fire in the forest, i spoke your similar intelligent words to some, because...... it was.....

yes, you are correct. i'm a huge liar, probably the worst on this site, totally delusional, and a total and complete idiot, and i do, don't forget, have an IQ of 16. and i love deceiving everyone i can, with all the BS attainable to this here and now, and i do it with the utmost underhanded thoughts, and.....i'm only 10, and i live in my mommy and daddy's basement,.....oh darn, i'll never get a date now. gee thanks mister. you made me cry. now i gotta tell my parents how bad i've been. yep, you caught me.....darn.

What are you going on about? Is this comedy?

no, you really are talking to a total idiot, that has a tested IQ of 16......not a joke. but lying and hallucinations? never. i don't smoke, drink, or speed in an automobile. i have no desire, for i have no need for illusions, and.... i'll eventually get there.
how-ever, i have been mach 2.5 in an F-104 Starfighter, decommissioned in 63'... awesome.....nothing like it.....

what you have to say is intelligent, thought provoking, and respectful.....

tell you what......i'd like to hear your explanations on things

Darkowl, when I reached this point in your sentence, I was already thinking "I don't know". The only things that I have 'good explanations' for are mostly the same things which we all, collectively, recognize as having a 'good explanation'.

I like what you said earlier - that "people "have to be right" and extinguish everything they can't explain, so they "feel" comfortable and right with the world, and their tiny surroundings."

These motivations lead us to accept inadequate explanations for mysterious occurrences. I prefer to acknowledge that I am surrounded by mysteries, and to wait for explanations which meet high standards of evidence, careful investigation, thorough examination, and cautious arrival at conclusions.

.. who made these neolithic sites in the world, and why....although the technology of some of these things cannot be duplicated today...the top block on the pyramid of giza.... organically cut granite by the Incas at Cusco that you cannot fit a razor blade through.....what did they use?

I don't know, and I'm also amazed. My speculative reaching leads to explanations which are bizarre and fantastic - but I prefer to simply admit that I don't know than give these fantastic thoughts too much weight.

...like mayonaise not spoiling at all for two weeks inside the great pyramid...

I hesitate to play the explanation game, because: if I grasp at a mundane explanation, and I'm wrong, it might seem to some (who are unfamiliar with logic) that this gives weight to the fantastic explanations. (Also, does so presumes that the claim is well established and requires explanation.)

The spoilage of foods is due to the activity of bacteria - mayonnaise is made with some acidic (antibacterial) ingredients, which makes it far safer then most people realize http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10945595. Varying the recipe for mayonnaise varies its resistance to bacteria. Plus, it seems possible to me that ancient burial sites might have a unique situation in terms of the airborne bacteria you will find.

razor blades stay permanently sharp as well, even with constant use.

I've heard this, many many times. I've read about this in magazines and newspapers, heard it from people I've met, and read about it online. Never (so far) have I come across claims from sources that (a) have been directly involved in making this observation and (b) demonstrate that they followed an objective, double blind investigative method (or the use of a measuring device).

So I have no opinion on this, as thus far I have no real compelling reason to believe nor disbelieve that there is any merit to the claim to begin with. I am open to the possibility that I will eventually come across such evidence.

i'm not trying to be hard on ya. i'm an observer,

I think its wonderful for you to put forward questions for which you'd like to see explanations. You seem sincerely open minded about it. I think that would be a great activity for out community here in the Science/Philosophy section - one person puts forward an 'unexplained mystery' and the community tries to come up with possible explanations for it.

and have just happen to run into things that you have yet to see, and experience

I'm sure that your experiences are uniquely yours, but I hope you aren't assuming that 'all people who accept materialistic explanations are simply lacking the experiences which lead others to look beyond materialistic explanations.'

Consider this:

A person enters a house; a chill runs up their spine. They think of their aunt, who died in this house. They feel an eery presence around the corner, they think they hear a noise - or was it their aunt's voice, talking to them? They round the corner and find their window open - a window they never open.

Person 1: Concludes that their aunts ghost was present, there is no way the window could have been open except by the action of the ghost, they thought of their aunt because of the ghost, the chill up their spine is due to the ghost, they heard their aunts voice because of the ghost, they had an eery presence is because of the ghost.

Person 2: Concludes that another human being opened the window, that the chill and the eery presence were both subconscious fear reactions due to subconsciously perceiving a unique situation in terms of air currents (open window), they thought of their aunt randomly (actually, they often think of their aunt, but rarely have these other 'creepy' experiences at the same time), and thought they heard their aunts voice because they were actually remembering their aunts voice in the wake of thinking of their aunt.

In my experience, the "Person 1"s of the world are just so sure that their experience are unique, and not available to the "Person 2"s of the world. That the "Person 2"s have never had that experience.

In fact, some of us rationalists have equally bizarre sensory experiences as the "Person 1"s of the world. Just because we don't see it as evidence of the supernatural doesn't mean our experiences are any less bizarre, confusing, inspiring, frightening, compelling, etc etc.

but lying and hallucinations? never. i don't smoke, drink, or speed in an automobile. i have no desire, for i have no need for illusions, and.... i'll eventually get there.

Seriously, I have yet to meet someone who isn't lying to themselves about something. One of my friends is lying to herself about how clearly she communicates, because she prefers to believe that her boyfriend doesn't listen rather than admit that she isn't communicating clearly. Another is lying to himself about his degree of homophobia, because its not politically correct to be homophobic, and he doesn't want to believe he's that kind of jerk. Another is lying to herself about her health condition, because she doesn't want to believe that her health problems are a result of lifestyle choices - she prefers to be the victim.

As far as hallucinations - as far as I know, all of the drug-induced hallucinations we humans can have are actually brought about by the brains own biochemistry. Externally ingested/smoked/whatever chemicals may be the cause that brings about a shift in brain chemistry - but on the chemical level the actual substances that 'cause' the hallucination (acting within the brain) are either manufactured by the brain, or are substances that act in the same manner as substances that are manufactured by the brain.

In other words, my understanding is that we are wired for a natural, in born, capacity to hallucinate. Maybe some of us, without knowing it, trigger that mechanism, just slightly.

drinker i like your very, very, well thought out answers, very much, what a gift to me, thank you! and, i agree with much that you've said as well, and the bacteria thought is.....well, i wonder what the ratio would be....because mayonaise....doesn't last too long anywhere, surprised  good call, and yes, i like as well to cover my bases with logic at every angle..... before even going to fantastic explanations. i agree that we could be hardwired for hallucinations under many circumstances as well, i never have hallucinated before, and if i did, i would try to enjoy it rather than freak out....what's the point in freaking? yanno?
as far as lying to ourselves, it depends on the person, and also, how we can precieve ourselves, as many think they are just the cat's meow, and deserve much, and don't, they are spoiled, and want things handed to them, and want someone to take their baggage....(common here) and..... put up pictures of what they'd like to come across as, but aren't anywhere close. i caught someone using my picture, the one in the laffayette cemetary, in black, between the two crypts, and telling me it was really him, and only when i threatened his url with legal action, did he comply with taking it down. it was actually taken for an advertisement in New Orleans.
be especially aware of the: where's my prince, or, where's my knight, because it's underlying psycology for someone struggling, and needs problems and baggage removed, and they'll use you to the max as well.....in most cases. not that some women don't deserve a prince, as many have earned that privilege, but from what i've seen, and been round-about told from some of these women, as they want a nanny, or you, to babysit, and take care of the kids, go on shopping sprees, have someone pay their bills, go out for expensive dinners, at least once a week... and give them their space to play away from you.....gee, that's not asking for much, yeah? been there, done that 25 years ago...never again, lol.

now guys..... will offer the moon to girls......and they end up in a pig pen! lots of cool guys here, but.... far more deceptive guys on here, than girls..... for majority, really are mostly failures in the dating world, and are looking to "hook up" and lie as thick as snow at the south pole.... they always lie about their height too! 5'8" is not 6', like the girl's not gonna notice????? i'd be embarrased to meet if i said something like that! and both sexes lie about thier bodies. yes, it shouldn't make a difference, because you should love the personallity....but if one lies, and says athletic, and they have "a few extra pounds" isn't that a serious personallity flaw? more like a lie..... both sexes are guilty.....and "a few extra pounds, often means in some cases, "a few extra tons" glad i'm only there for coffee and friends! and not a decieved soulmate!!!!..... a couple of times, in my mind, i said holy damn!!!! but you're right about personal preceptions and lying about it!!! inside and out.... it stems down to greed, and the want to get something that you couldn't normally attain, and thinking that you deserve it without putting the work or miles in it and that you should get it anyway. if one wants something, they should try to be that equal themselves, or attain it to the best of their ability, or....not expect the smart hunk, that works on everything to be a fine tuned entity.... or the intelligent, statuesque, living sculpture of a woman without at least taking care of yourself, or at least making an attempt to get rid of that mid-riff and getting off the couch and making at least minimum wage, lol.....it's not fair to them for people to do this... yanno?

i will tell you this though. me personally, i've come to grips with being gut-wrenchingly honest about being aware of who i am, and where i'm coming from, and, although i do have fun being silly to the point of stupidity on here, i have nothing that i need to hide or gain by being a liar, (even subconciencely) as i do travel and see many people on here, and as i do daydream and wish, i don't embellish when seriousness is a must....like here in this conversation, lol. if you haven't noticed by now, i'm pretty straight forward....just curious. and a few others that i know in my life appear to have no need for imbellishment, for in some ways, the ones i know, their lives are stranger than fiction. you couldn't make the stuff up. people think we'd be crazy....

thanks again for such cool insight, V~

At the "10th International Conference on Science and Paranormal Phenomena" that took place 2 days ago at the Moscow Technical University , it was concluded that Quantum Mechanics -- developed in 1925/6 -- is incapable of explaining much of the paradoxes and phenomena, the existance of which requires the overhaul of the whole doctrine!!! (adding a temporal componnent, non-local interaction between the matterial objects -- the info-bio-energetic interaction between the objects)

Another good point to science. They at least have and use that ability to overhaul everything if need be.

Religion tends to close its eyes, stick fingers in ears and scream no, no, no! And then insert entire head in sand.

If energy cannot be destroyed just transformed, and we essentially are made of energy. Does that mean we live on just in a different sense?

It's just a standard fallacy of equivocation: the statement that "energy cannot be destroyed" only applies to the physical definition of "energy", not the colloquial use that refers to a person's enthusiasm or motivation.

Wow how refreshing when someone understands how meaning attaches to words and how different meanings for the same word make silly statements silly.

Cheers!

For anyone in this thread, I would ask two question, which when you can answer them you will be further along the path to truth they you where before answering them.

1) what does it mean to be alive?
2) what does it mean to be you?

You could also ask yourself what does it mean to exist.
