Caligula catches the pervertedness of the Romans at that time and has midgets in it.

Caligula is beyond ridiculous - it's visually decadent and hilarious.

And it killed Malcolm McDowell's career, so there's gotta be something worthwhile in there.

Dirty movie, but pointless, just stick a proper porno on.

The only two Emanuelle movies I've enjoyed were Joe D'Amato's Emanuelle e gli ultimi cannibali(Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals)-which was made to cash in on the 70's Italian cannibal craze.
And Bruno Mattei's Violenza in un carcere femminile(Violence in a Women's Prison)- which was made to cash in on the Women In Prison films.
Not sure if any of the Emanuelle movies can be described as "hot" more like sleazy...not that that's a bad thing.

Coincidentally Laura Gemser, who played Emanuelle starred in Caligola: La storia mai raccontata(Caligula 2 - The Untold Story) Written and directed by Italian shclock-master Joe D'Amato, I actually found this more entertaining than the '79 Caligula, because it's sleazier and more violent(the Italian way)

Laura Gemser also starred in Joe D'Amato's Le notti erotiche dei morti viventi(Erotic Nights of the Living Dead) The 112 minute cut is a porno Zombie flick.

Caligula, it is interesting to say the least. Its not really pointless, imo, it just takes a particular mindset to appreciate. I didn't until I read about Caligula and how dead on the movie was. If you've ever watched Rome on HBO or the new Spartacus: Blood and Sand series, the point with the nudity and sex is to present a more accurate portrayal of how sex was viewed in that era. There were not any real taboos in the sense that we have taboos today. The point in the presentation of the sex in Caligula is to represent exactly how deranged he was and how that derangement progressed during his rulership.
