So, I've been debating getting another horse, and found a really good deal on colt that's about a year and 10 months. I went and took a look at him today, and while he's small, I think he'll be a fine chap. The woman was having to get rid of him, due to job loss but didn't want to send him to auction, so she made an even better deal for me.

He ended up with a name change but here is Raven's Favored Gentry, Gentry for short. He's a Spotted Saddle Horse, essentially a Pinto/Paint Tennessee Walking Horse. (There's a whole lexicon of various names that are different between English ridden/gaited horses and Western ridden/trotting horses). He's a Sorrel and white patterned fellow, and is pretty good in his basics. Absolute sweetie, and very willing. He won't be able to be ridden till he's a least three, but I'll be able to get him prepped and used to things so the actual riding of him should be easy. I'm also going to see about training him to pull a cart or single carriage.

He's done quite well, and my other idiot horse was thrilled to have a new buddy. So much so that he jumped the fence and got a leg hung up. Fortunately, no injuries, and barely any time caught. Thank goodness for sane horses, dweeb though he is.

No lead, ponying up for pictures, took Chance for a ride so Gentry could learn the place.

Thanks, I just keep laughing as Chance looks like a draft horse next to Gentry. Or even more of a wooly mammoth then I already tease him about.

My group have always run to chestnuts, like Chance. I love the colors but always go with the brains, and body rather then picking by color. LOL!

Sounds like when we had English Mastiffs with a Shih-Tzu! Heheheh. Chance isn't a particularly big horse at 16HH, but he looks huge. I'm really hoping Gentry hits 15HH.

I'm sorry but i have to ask this.where the hell do people come up with these names for horses?

these poor horses aren't given names, they're given frases.ever listen to or been to a horse race?,you'll hear stuff like

"Star Rockets In Flight is in the lead around turn 2 but Holy Cow It's Superman is close behind.bring up the rear is Betcha Can't Eat Just One"

i mean seriously......noway think what

Of course. But look at how kids are being named nowadays. laugh

With regards to Gentry, the Raven portion is my farm name. Raven Acres. I can use mine, since he's not actually papered or anything. Chance's registered name is Chance To Remember. The mare we used to have was Kiss My Grits.

So jealous of you! They're great. When I got Junior (15.3) I asked him who named him. He just looked at me, turned his head and almost pushed me over with a nuzzle. He was chestnut too, a barrel racer. So...when am i coming to visit?

LOL! Sounds about right. Mom has the view that if the horse steps on her foot, then he'll be a wonderful family member. And it seems to have panned out that way!

You are welcome anytime. :-)

Short of any freaky accidents, most definitely. Chance is 19, and have had him since he was 3. The mare, Kissy, was 5 when mom got her, and 24 when she passed. Abe, my first horse was 17 and 27 when he passed.

I've always been lucky to get sane smart horses with few problems. And one gets to know them so well after that time. I've never understood the ones who keep a horse for a year or three and get a new one. They aren't cars...
