Generally speaking used to be that bosses would direct employees and they would oblige. Professional people could be calm, direct, even polite to make their point and be believed. Having teachers was a Privelege so students wanted to learn. Parents could tell their children how to behave in reasonable tones and they would obey. Perhaps it was the extream authority those people held in those situations. As time has gone by however trust in authority of any kind has turned to baloney. So the old draw on love, kindness, or consideration as pretty much be eroded so it takes more shock value to catch attention or intimidate recipients. More recently it has gotten where bullying and "shock" treatments have been worn out and hardly get noticed. So the circle has come back around to whispering, being courteous, even giving true customer service has become so rare that it now gets noticed. So the theroy has come full circle. Be nice you will stand out. Thus get more of what you want.
