Is is wrong to expect a card and some kind of thoughtful gift or gesture for a holiday/birthday/anniversary?

not everyone is a thoughtful as you,..

It is not wrong to want one but if you expect it all the times then you could be in for a rude awakening.
Honestly they are always nice to receive and brings a smile such a small jester will mean a lot to many... Do I expect them noooooooooo but I do appreciate the ones I get and I'm one that keeps them as well...... |

If you know the other person isn't as thoughtful, doesn't put much stock in recognizing stuff like that or if they're just forgetful, no, you shouldn't expect it. My stepfather never remembered birthdays or anniversaries, so he'd get you a gift ahead of time and tell you that's what it was for. Worked for me.

Is is wrong to expect a card and some kind of thoughtful gift or gesture for a holiday/birthday/anniversary? No, however, I usually only send those things on days that end in "Y".... |

What's wrong with anytime of the year? I think it makes it a little "extra" special.

it is wrong if it is important to you and the other person knows it is important to you
it is not so wrong if the other person doesn't know...perhaps he/she should be informed roko |

Is is wrong to expect a card and some kind of thoughtful gift or gesture for a holiday/birthday/anniversary? It's not right or wrong. There is no moral implication in expecting or not expecting. |

Is is wrong to expect a card and some kind of thoughtful gift or gesture for a holiday/birthday/anniversary? I know many people that live all over the place so I usually call and wish them a happy BD, or whatever day it is for them. If they are not home I leave it on their answering machine so they can listen later. |

OK maybe "Expect" isnt the right word and could be construed as high maintenance or materialistic.
Mind you I am not talking diamonds and a persons every whim met. I was raised where (and all the people I know except one) where a card on your birthday, V Day, etc and possibly a gift was appreciated. Or one for no reason. An expression of showing the other how special you are. A hand made card or gift was just as appreciated. Its the thought. |

I don't celebrate holidays with gifts or cards, so I don't expect it at all. Everyone that knows me knows a simple well wish is good enough for me

It's not right and it's not wrong to expect anything from anyone for any reason. However, you're setting yourself up for a lot of disappointment if you expect something and you don't get it. Learn to expect nothing, and on the off-chance you get what you wanted, consider it a happy surprise.

Learn to expect nothing, and on the off-chance you get what you wanted, consider it a happy surprise. Well said. I always send out love unconditionally, it is always bestowed as a gift - always given freely and without expectation. Same with anything that I do for them along the journey. |
