Can you tell when the profile is fake? I have seen some profiles that I can tell they are fake, can you?

I don't view profiles, so I've never really thought about it. What makes you think they're fake?

Fake as far as pictures, or what people are saying?

I usually think the profiles with just one really well done photo and not much to say are fake. Any profile with random hehe's and lol's that just are'nt funny. Of course getting a slew of new matches all exactly the same age and nearby is another.


The latest fake I did see had a very well written profile and the user lures people in with winks then sends you a completely off the wall mail asking you to email or im them and gives an address. I probably should have reported that one.

usually for me when i come across a profile with no pic or the person left of their head in a pic or telling you to email them at an address.

i just go on the assumption that every profile is fake until i've met them in real life.

i tell who people are by how they interact with me, not
by photos or profiles but by forum posts and email. that
is sufficient as far as online goes. after that would be
webcam (but i don't have one) and then meeting in person.
i am naturally skeptical.

but if someone puts enough effort into creating a
fake persona then it is not easy to tell who they really
are. happens all the time.

it also happens in real life with con-artists. there are
real live people who are so good at misrepresenting themselves
that they have fooled everyone into thinking they were doctors
or lawyers or investment brokers or business people of various
sorts. they are high-stakes scammers!

I had an intimate encounter with an imaginary profile once. The lack of substance was awesome!

No i can't. Though i am very aware anyway. I've always been a wary person. CAUTION: Do not trick!

Mingle2 works very hard to eliminate scammers as well as fake profiles or even duplicate profiles. All of these are against the forum rules and will be dealt with by Admin.

We do ask that anytime you suspect a fake profile to report the profile in question. There is a link at the bottom of your e-mails that says Report this User as well as on each user's profile just right of the main picture. There is another Report link at the bottom of each post as well.

The site has several features they have installed in order to decrease scammers. But.......we still rely on the members helping out anytime they suspect scammers, fake profiles or members with more then one profile. Just take the time and help make this site the place you would want your friends to join......
