I don't think someone's life is any one else's business.

I disagree.

When it comes to all of us having to support them through the money we get taken from us ( involuntarily, I might add ) then that MAKES it our business.

involuntarily..that's the key word. My taxes go out also and who they go to help isn't my concern since I have no say in it anyway. Not a thing I'm going to expend much energy on.
Anyone who is living their life on drugs and needing food stamps or whatever..doesn't sound like much of a life, sounds awful..I feel bad for them.

Feel bad for them....fine.

Just don't make me pay for their habit.

Sorry, but when I can barely afford to live, and some f@ckstick is using the money I HAVE to give up ( because someone sez so ) to support their drug or alcohol habit, it's pretty irritating to me.

I don't use drugs or drink. Why should I have to support the habits of those who do?

I hear ya..I don't drink or use drugs either...
And yes, I do feel bad for them, as I do anyone who is miserable.
The system isn't flawless, I'd rather know some are being helped by my taxes than not. I'm not so sure this is something that can be "fixed".
Total collapse, and start over may be better..

But that's how I roll...I  everyone.

i kind of agree they should piss test them cause if a hard working person gets hurt on the job and goes for a comp claim they piss test him and if he doesn't pass he is denied comp benefits.

I just want to make a couple of things clear here. We get upwards towards a 100 people a night for dinner. We serve full course meals, we are not a soup kitchen. We do not receive one penny from any govt agency..from city to federal. We survive on the goodness and charity of others, including local grocers, people picking up donations from local restuarants (google 'Harvest program') and are 14 years strong. What you give you receive.
LL, I have to disagree with you. At some point, someones else's life is our business if they are suffering, hungry, cold and starving and we have all the comforts. I - personally - beleive it is one of the reasons we are humans, compassion- one of the few traits that animals have very little of. Sort of a test. We are here to overcome and love, the greatest healer. I have seen some pretty amazing things happen to people when you show you care when no one else does.
And lastly...and I really want to emphasize this- maybe 20% of the people who come are addicts. PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME that every homeless person you see is a addict! 1/2 have fallen are hard times (alot of our men have been laid off recently) and the other half have some serious mental health issues (women # are increasing -out of 20 that have come-2 are addicts with mental health the others- seniors, disabled etc) or physical problems that have fallen through the cracks by programs being cut left and right. Our gov. was on the tv the other night, after all his screwing around, affairs saying to cut !! which programs. I get disgusted and wonder why his salary(all of theirs) isn't cut like ours..or even why he's still representing us.
Please don't judge these people, becauser all of them are like you and me, real people and do everything they can trying to get back on their feet and constantly are getting doors slammed in their face.

Judge them.....??? is that what you think I'm doing? I'm the compassionate voice here, you totally misunderstood my post if you feel the need to ask me not to judge them..

NO, never!. You just said- you personally thought that someone elses lives is none of our business, I work very hard on non-judgement.flowerforyou

(I just meant for those who encounter them on the street and from this conversation- it was starting to sound like they all were addicts)

maybe my verbiage was off then...interference in another's life, judgment, the telling of another how to live, what they need, want.

Not compassionate service..that's what were all here for. flowerforyou

1. The average drug screen costs $42.
2. There are approximately 30 million people in the US on some type of welfare.

30,000,000 x $42 = $1,260,000,000

Where is the funding for this suppose to come from???

I'll tell you where, of course taxpayers will foot the bill.So as bad as times have become you suggest "they" raise taxes??? spock whoa

frustrated NEVERMIND! frustrated I was simply giving "my take" on this. I could careless what you think about drug users. I was giving a logical answer as to why "they" don't drug test people on welfare. Think about it. Do you think drug screens are free???

No, my dear, I don't. I do know everything is taxed, we were talking about life, possibilities and people coming up with ideas on ways to end these problems that are plauging our society, including the people who run our govt. We all realize it would be another tax, theres no reason to get so upset.

the last 2 trucks i bought, both the guys were lazy azz jerkoffs..sitting on the couch doin nothing, but smoking dope and drinking booze.

one of em,even had the nerve to send his wife out to clean out the truck!!
while shes doing that,im checking to make sure they have some sort of backup vehicle,at which point she replied,we are on welfare and will be getting a new vehicle.

totally pissed me off.

i just got thru overpaying on my taxes..And i almost went bankrupt last year, just so people like this can sit around and get drugged out of their minds.

so yes,id say its long overdue...is it financially feasible?
thats a very good question.

3 doors down, I had neighbors Exactly like that...and we all were pissed because people were showing up day and night; they were getting their welfare, were felons and couldn'y give a crap. They never showed up where the meal program is and thats 1/4 mile from my home. A few more different ones started showing up where we are, I put my foot down and chased one away that wouldn't even come inside. He told me I didn't know who he was dealing with, told him, "NO, YOU don't know who You're DEALING WITH..." and left it at that. He left. I could care less what people do when it comes to drugs but don't try and come and sell them where I am and in a church. I've had my fun too, but the crap that they are selling now which could ruin people lives in a heartbeat, they should collect all these people and send them somewhere in the middle of Wyomming, fly in food and just leave them there for a year or two. It's just plain stupid, thats why I think drug testing is a good idea.
