Topic: Palin, daughter lash out at 'Family Guy' episode | |

that last part is a good message...I won't deny that. But I have a problem with the whole idea that I got from the whole episode. I'm certainly not saying "Oh no....we must protect our children and get that show off the air" My nephew watches South Park. I just think it's tasteless and some of the episodes I've seen of it were disgusting. From what I have seen Family Guy isn't as bad as South Park, but to each their own. Just like the comedians that think they have to use cuss words ever other word. Why??? Can't they be funny without it? But the dig at Palin, which I perceived as bringing up her child, was out of line. The kids didn't ask to be in the spotlight. She is in the spotlight. I have no problem with jokes about her, since she is the one that decided to be in the spotlight. She didnt have to parade her family on stage at the convention....SHE chose to do so. Do I agree with Family Guy doing it? NO But its tasteless entertainment that someones watching... |

massage, you could be right. I'm not in her head (thank goodness ) But I do know that any one that messes with my son better take cover lol...but I'm just that way and I'm not even in the spotlight. Yeah, I'm not in her head either, I'm just cynical. I'm also cynical of Seth, who seems to have been careful to minimize the disrespect towards people with Down's syndrome in this episode, and I do not believe he did this out of sincere respect or caring - I think he was just trying to be strategic about what he could get away with. ------------ If you cant take the heat you shouldnt put your family out there!!!!! It happens all the time and just not to politicians!!!!!
In general, I absolutely disagree. We should have community standards on how far we allow people to go, and people with family members with sensitive issues should not be force to avoid the spotlight by our lack of self-restraint. ---------- Something else I find disturbing - I keep seeing headlines which seem to represent Palin's claims as truth. If there wasn't so much subjectivity involved, this would be slander of Family Guy. Maybe it is. |

I don't think it would be considered slander, legally, but I could see how a parent might take it if it was aimed at their child.
What I'm not getting is why this is ok...not whether they can do it or not. |

tempt...that is your opinion Hey I agree with you but again "THEY" had a choice...They chose to put the family out there. I DAM SURE WOULDNT DO THAT TO MY CHILD!!!! true, but is it right? That is more of what I am getting at. Just because they CAN doesn't mean they SHOULD. And I could handle it a bit better if it was taking digs at a spouse, but not someone's child. There are just somethings in the world I can't stomach. There are some jokes I think are funny, some distasteful and some down right disgusting. I think this one falls into the distasteful category for me. |

tempt...I'm not even saying to censor or ban them. I just don't get the mentality of it all.
Maybe this made a bigger point with me because I've been wondering in real life why people do the things they do. Kinda sad if you ask me. And I totally agree with changing the channels. I'm a big advocate of that lol. I was just amazed at the jokes these days and such |

from mudflats.net and the ACTRESS WITH DOWNS who played the part
Ms. Friedman, an actor and lecturer who works in a law firm and has Down Syndrome herself, after hearing about the Palins’ reaction decided to write a letter to the New York Times. My name is Andrea Fay Friedman. I was born with Down syndrome. I played the role of Ellen on the “Extra Large Medium” episode of Family Guy that was broadcast on Valentine’s day. Although they gave me red hair on the show, I am really a blonde. I also wore a red wig for my role in ” Smudge” but I was a blonde in “Life Goes On”. I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor. I thought the line “I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska” was very funny. I think the word is “sarcasm”. In my family we think laughing is good. My parents raised me to have a sense of humor and to live a normal life. My mother did not carry me around under her arm like a loaf of French bread the way former Governor Palin carries her son Trig around looking for sympathy and votes. I wonder if I would be offended if they had a mixed character on the show with a line that they were the child of msharmony? doubtful, since being mixed is a reality in many childrens life, including my own, and i wouldnt assume it to be insulting her. |
